传播学视域下中国文化走出去与翻译策略选择——以《红楼梦》英译为例 被引量:82

On Translation Strategies for Chinese Culture's “Going Abroad”from the Communication Perspective——With Two Translations of Hongloumeng as a Case Study

摘要 本文以杨宪益、霍克斯译著《红楼梦》为例,从传播学视域探讨中国文化走出去与翻译策略选择的关系。指出中国文化对外传播以异化为主的观点忽视了以美国为主导的西方国家和地区的读者文化接受能力和立场。认为当前乃至今后相当长的时期内,中国文化走出去既需中国译者偏向异化的译本,更需国外汉学家偏向归化的译本,"归化为主,异化为辅",相辅相成,满足不同类型读者之需,切实推进中国文化走出去。 This paper explores the translation strategies for Chinese culture' s "' going abroad" from the communication per- spective, based on the case study of two translations of Hongloumeng by Yang Xianyi and David Hawkes respectively. It points out that scholars who insist that foreignization is better than domestication for promoting Chinese culture ' s going abroad are not correct due to their ignorance of the cultural stances and acceptability of the target readers in western countries and regions led by Ameirica. It suggests that at present and for a fairly long time to come Chinese tranlators' foreignization-orientated transla- tions and foreign Sinologists' domestication-orientated translations should coexist, domestication should be the main strategy while foreignization serves as a supplement, so as to meet the requirements of tartget readers with different cultural stances and thus to promote the overseas communication of Chinese culture.
