This article discusses the roles played by nation states and nationalism.The emergence of nation states and the rise of nationalism in fact turned over a new leaf in world history.Historically,nationalism played a very revolutionary role.The domination of nationalism in the whole Europe in the 19th century created the essential prerequisite for a prosperous,progressive Europe,while the vicious aspects of European nationalism brought disasters to Europe and the world.The 20th century since 194 has become the period in history in which the whole of mankind has accepted nationalism.Nationalism is very much alive and it is one of the factors led to the radical changes of Eastern Europe and the collapse of the Soviet Union.The reorientation of nationalism is a very important problom in the contemporary world.
