媒介社会学的文化研究路径:以斯图亚特·霍尔为例 被引量:24

摘要 国内传播学界关于媒介社会学的论述呈现出以美国传统和新闻机构为中心的倾向,而对美国学术脉络和机构范式之外的研究传统缺乏足够重视。机构视角把研究范围广阔的媒介社会学窄化为以媒体机构和职业活动为核心的新闻生产社会学。本文认为,以斯图亚特·霍尔为代表的英国文化研究视野下的媒介社会学传统,尤其是霍尔从符号学传统出发提出的"意义结构"概念以及将新闻和媒介分析与意识形态和宏观政治经济情势分析相结合的方法,是值得我们借鉴的替代性学术资源。本文以霍尔在新闻媒介研究方面的代表性论著为论述对象,系统评述了霍尔等人的媒介社会学主张,并在此基础上总结了媒介社会学的文化研究路径的核心特征和理论价值。 The American tradition of institutionally-and-professionally-focused approach to journalism, news production and media studies has dominated the academic arena of media and news sociology in the Chinese context in the past decade. This bias has led to relative neglectof alternative approaches, especially those from non-American background, such as the British Cultural Studies, represented by Smart Hall. It is argued in this paper Hall and his major works on media sociology in the British context, provided an useful alternative paradigm that, based on a semiotic tradition, highlights the concept of"stmctures of meaning" and the complex connections between media and specific historical conjuncture of political economic and ideological conditions. In order to critically evaluate the cultural studies approach to media sociology, in this paper, major works by Stuart Hall dealing with news and media issues are systematically reviewed and compared with the dominant paradigm.
