摘要
文本综述"世界英语"及"中国英语"研究的发展,在全球化背景下面临的理论挑战以及相关回应。对世界英语的理论挑战主要涉及:其性质的多元性或一元性、变体之间的平等性、"卡式路径"在新世纪的解释效力。与其竞争的新兴概念包括"英语通用语"等。作为"世界英语"家族成员的"中国英语",20世纪80年代提出以来经历了概念争鸣、实证考察、功能探索的阶段。目前它面临尴尬的矛盾:一方面被赋予中国文化输出的重载,另一方面受制于概念辨析的混沌,以及实证描述和态度支持的局限。并尝试对未来的研究给出建议。
This paper reviews the research development of ＂World Englishes＂（WE） and ＂China English＂（CE）,the challenges they face, and related responses. These include the claimed pluricentric nature of WE, the equality between its varieties, and its explanatory power in the new millennium. Concepts such as ＂English as a Lingua Franca＂（ELF） have become its competitive alternatives. As a member of the WE family,CE emerged in the 1980 s and has undergone three major phases- conceptual debate,empirical description,and functional exploration. Now it faces an interestingly difficult situation-being burdened with the heavy task of Chinese cultural exportation on the one hand,but insufficient in conceptual scrutiny,empirical support,and attitudinal support. Suggestions for future research are provided.
