Based on a national scale survey of 30 universities in 8 Chinese provinces in 2011, this empirical study shows that although there are lots of policies encouraging college graduates to work in the grassroots, the number of students who really go there is small because of their concerns about career prospects, and they obviously have a tendency to flow to the east. Human resources, family and school background and job hunting issues are important factors affecting grassroots employment of college graduates and the students who are willing to work in grass roots are always in weak position. This article al- so indicates that occupational status, matching level, starting salary and job satisfaction of those graduates are relatively low.
