“走出去”语境下的译介主体之争——从两位知名翻译家的论战谈开去

The Argument over Translating Subject in the “Going Global” Context:A Reflexion on the Famous Debate Between Two Well-known Chinese Translators

摘要曹明伦、许渊冲的论战暴露出绵延中国翻译界50余年的两派学术观点的对立,两派以汉学家和本土译者谁来充当"走出去"的译介主体为论争焦点,各执一词,不利于"走出去"的顺利实现。文章基于对许渊冲现象的考察,首次提出了"反思性异化"(reexive foreignization)的概念,认为此概念可作为解决争端的理论基础。作为一种翻译策略,其命名灵感来源于社会学"现代化"概念的非线性演变,实质为本土译者主动发起的多元文化主义议程。它在革除传统异化弊端的同时,主张文化他者积极参与全球多元文化系统的建构——这重点着落在"走出去"文本的选材上,应优先输出最能彰显"和谐"理念的文本,强调文化多元共生,主动将多元文化主义提上议程。因此,本土文化必须拥有源语选材的自主权,译介主体之争自然可以休矣。 e debate between Cao Minglun and Xu Yuanchong uncovers a clash of academic opinions that has been lingering on in Chinese translation academia for over 50 years.e controversy focuses on whether western Sinologists or native translators should play the major role in translating Chinese into western languages in the"going global"cause.Unyielding debates have driven both parties into a deadlock,hence restricting the realization of"going global".To dissolve the dilemma,the research re ects creatively upon Xu’s translation strategies,and raises the concept of"re exive foreignization",which hopefully can serve as a theoretical foundation to solve the controversy.e nomenclature is inspired by the non-linear transformation of the sociological concept of"modernization",and the nature of it indicates an initiative multicultural agenda upheld by native translators.Reflexive foreignization not only abolishes the disadvantages of the traditional foreignization,but also proposes cultural others to take an active part in constructing the global multicultural system.In other words,source cultures should rst export texts that best exemplify the"harmony"concept,whereby emphasizing multicultural coexistence,putting multiculturalism on the agenda in an active manner.erefore,it is a must for the source cultures to freely select texts to export,which justi es that native translators shall play the major role in translating Chinese into foreign languages.
