摘要
2021年“元宇宙”的突然风靡,提示了互联网的发展或将进入新阶段,但从隐喻的角度来看这并不是什么新事物——“元宇宙”是一个典型的隐喻式概念,是自20世纪90年代互联网普及以来不断更迭的众多互联网隐喻之一。虽然近年来隐喻对思维和认知的作用不断受到重视与强调,但互联网隐喻分析却未能形成体系,这可能造成后续研究者错过历史连续性所带来的启发。因此本文认为,处于学科交叉地带的传播学应当担起重任,沿着不同时代互联网隐喻的更迭线索持续开展相应研究,及时记录、保存、分析、辨别每个时代风行的互联网隐喻和它们激起的社会反应。本文展示了隐喻分析的批判性特征,并认为互联网隐喻分析的学术脉络的构建,可以社会科学(尤其是STS领域)自20世纪90年代以来日益盛行的“想象”研究为中介——本文以“元宇宙”为例展示了这个解释框架的搭建。
The sudden popularity of the“metaverse”in 2021 suggests that the Internet may be entering a new phase of development,but from a metaphorical point of view,this is not something new.“Metaverse”is a classic metaphorical concept,one of many that have evolved since the Internet became popular in the 1990s.Although the role of metaphors in thinking and cognition has been emphasized in recent years,the analysis of Internet metaphors has failed to form a system,which may cause subsequent researchers to miss out on the inspiration brought by historical continuity.Therefore,this paper argues that communication studies,which is at the crossroads of disciplines,should take up the important task of carrying out continuous research along the line of Internet metaphors.Communication researchers should record,preserve,analyze,and identify the popular Internet metaphors and the social reactions they provoke in each era.This paper demonstrates the critical character of metaphorical analysis and argues that the construction of the academic path of Internet metaphorical analysis can be mediated by the“imaginary studies”that have become increasingly prevalent in the social sciences(especially in the STS field)since the 1990s-this paper uses the“metaverse”as an example to demonstrate the construction of this explanatory framework.
