摘要
历史语用学旨在探讨语义演变的语用机制。前人研究多认为语义演变是会话含义规约化的结果,然而会话含义的推理发生于话语层面,难以与词汇层面的语义演变建立直接联系。文章旨在基于真值条件语用学分析“所以”的语法化历程,探究语义演变的词汇语用机制。研究发现“所以”的语义演变主要由“饱和”及“调适”两类词汇语用机制触发。两类机制伴随语义组合的过程发生,通过调整“所”“以”及“所以”的语义来消解命题内容与言者意图的冲突,最终导致“所以”的语义变化。上述发现说明词汇语用机制是推动语义演变的重要机制。
Historical pragmatics aims at investigating the pragmatic mechanisms underlying semantic changes.Previous studies claimed that semantic changes result from the conventionalization of conversational implicatures.However,conversational implicatures are generated by utterance-level inferences and are not directly related to the semantic changes at the lexical level.The paper attempts to provide a lexical pragmatic account of the mechanisms underlying semantic changes.Drawing insights from Truth Conditional Pragmatics,the paper examines the semantic changes of suoyi during its grammaticalization.It is discovered that suoyi's semantic changes are mainly motivated by saturation and modulation,which are two types of lexical pragmatic processes.Both of them occur in the process of semantic composition.While resolving the semantic conflicts between the propositional content and the speaker's intention,they modify the meaning of suoyi and thus lead to semantic changes.These findings suggest that lexical pragmatic mechanisms play an important role in semantic changes.
