摘要
本文以《庄子》中五位著名译者对"道""鲲""鹏""坐驰""齐谐"等特殊概念的译文为例,讨论了文化概念词在语言转换过程中信息还原须遵循的原则和为实现原则而采用的手段。文化承载词语的信息还原并没有特殊的翻译原则和固定不变的手段,须根据具体语境和情况,选用音译、直译和意译。不同的译法都是译者根据各自对翻译本质的理解,在各种可选方案中做出不同选择的结果。由于特有概念在译入语中的缺失,直译和意译都很难完全对应。音译虽然是一种重要而有效的手段,但音译割裂了音和义之间的内在联系。因此,音译的手段是否可行,要根据相应概念在译入语中被约定的程度而定,只有当音译概念在译入语中约定俗成之后才能成立。
This paper probes into the principles of translating culture-loaded words based on the five versions of "道(Dao) ""鲲(Kun) ""鹏(Peng) ""坐驰(Zuo Chi) "and"齐谐(Qi Xie) "in Zhuangzi. There are no specific approaches to the English translation of culture-loaded words;instead,the adoption of transliteration,literal translation or free translation depends on specific contexts and situations. The different handlings of translation are results of the translator’s choice from various available solutions based on his perception of the essence of translation. Due to the absence of certain cultural concepts in the target language,literal translation and free translation cannot always realize the effect of ideal equivalence,while transliteration could also fail to do a good job. Therefore,the application of transliteration should depend on the extent to which the concept is conventionalized in the target language.
