摘要
"慎独"是古典儒学尤其是思孟学派的重要内容。随着与"慎独"有关的简帛材料的出土,"慎独"之义成为学界论辩的一个热点。然而,目前学者们的讨论仅止于"慎独"的两个层次。"慎独"的第三个层次,即作为"朝彻""见独"层次的"慎其德",上可溯自孔子的"为政以德,譬如北辰"之说,下启思孟而下的"道统之传",涉及"天下"的内在关联与秩序,是整体把握"天人合一"古今之义的关键所在,不仅为完整理解"慎独"古义所不可或缺,而且关涉人类共同命运,具有跨时空、跨文化的当代意义。
Shendu,vigilance in solitude,is an important Confucian teaching that is attributed to the School of Zisi(483-402 BCE)and Mencius(371-289 BCE).The meaning of Shendu became a heated debate after the discoveries of the Shendu-related excavated ancient bamboo-and-silk manuscripts.However,current scholarly discussions are limited to the first two levels of Shendu.The third and the highest level of Shendu,i.e.,vigilance in solitude at the level of Shenqide or vigilance in vituality,is at the same level of the Daoist zhaoche enlightenment,after which the solitude is visible,i.e.,Jiandu.The origins of vigilance in vituality can be traced back to Confucius s teaching of governing with vituality,like the Northern Star surrounded by the other stars,and it also starts the tradition of Daotong,the Neo-Confucian interpretation and identification of the Confucian orthodoxy.Shendu at the level of vigilance in vituality is critical in the holistic understanding,both traditional and contemporary,of Tianrenheyi(or the nature-human integration),since it relates to the inner connections and the orders under the Heaven.As a perspective across time,space and cultures,vigilance in vituality relates to the shared future for mankind and is of profound contemporary implications.
