摘要
在"大力开展对外文化交流、推动中华文化走向世界"的国家政策背景下,大学英语教育显得尤为重要,而大学英语教材肩负着培养学生国际交流的语言能力、传播世界文化知识的职责。本研究运用语料库方法,探究我国"十二五"普通高等教育本科国家级规划大学英语教材的文化内容,发现10套教材的文化选择和配置存在不容忽视的问题,最为突出的是美英文化强势和中国文化未得到应有重视。研究进而讨论了教材文化失衡现象带给学生语言学习和文化构建的可能影响,以期引起学者、教师尤其是教材编者的注意,使大学英语教材更好地服务于我国"软实力"和国际传播能力建设。
China is committed to strengthening the capabilities of international communication, particularly for cuhural exchange and intercultural understanding. Against this policy background, college English education is playing an increasingly important role, in which textbooks are the main learning resources and vehicles for conveying cultural content and developing learners' language competence in international communication. Based on a college English textbook corpus, this study investigates how cultures are represented in the available college English textbooks includ- ed in the national "Twelfth Five-Year Plan". Results show that in terms of the range of cultures represented in the textbooks, there is an obvious imbalance. Most of the textbooks overwhelmingly feature American and British cultures, but marginalize the cultures of the rest of the world ( e. g. Chinese culture). The study further discusses the findings in relation to their possible negative influence on Chinese EFL learners' acquisition of language skills and cultural repertoires. In the end it offers some implications for EFL researchers and teachers, textbook writers in particular, and suggests taking the findings into consideration when revising the existing textbooks so as to better serve the current national cultural strategy.
