An analysis of the unrelated individuals of S. asotus linnaeus (As ) and S. soldatovi meridion alis Chen (So )was done by DNA fingerprinting while the fluorescein labelled oligonucleotide probe LZF 1 was used. The values of genetic variation of genome between two specices and among individuals have been estimated. The mean number of bands and distribution of bands are significantly different between two cathshes. The interspecific variation is higher than the intraspecific. The genetic variation in As is higher than that in So. A very high probability of resolution has been got among indviduals. This implies that the DNA fingerprints are characterized by completely individual-specificity and the genomicpolymorphism in As is richer than that in So. The results provide an excellent mean for identifying relationship and classification between As and So at molecular genetics level.
