摘要
德与Virtue的对译关系曾为中西方伦理学比较会通奠定了基础。然而,进一步的分析研究表明,德与Virtue这两个语词或概念本身即包含了丰富的语源学与思想史之跌宕起伏;更重要的是,它们各自的特色与价值以及其间的异同都需要从中西方哲学(含伦理学)理论范式的层面予以理解和把握。苏格拉底以来的古希腊伦理学以知识论、逻辑学为基础,围绕德性与正义等主题展开;而中国战国中期以来,儒道两家伦理学则以心性论—实践智慧和境界理论为归宿,趋向于人性的实现与精神的提升。
The received translational equivalence between de and virtue laid the foundation for comparative studies in ethics East and West. However,further analyses reveal rich and turbulent philological and intellectual histories behind the two terms/concepts. More importantly,their distinct characteristics and intellectual significances are to be grasped from a paradigmatic perspective in their respective philosophical( including ethical) tradition. Ancient Greek ethics since Socrates is based on epistemology and logic,and its development revolves around themes such as virtue and justice etc;whereas Daoist and Confucian ethics since mid-Warring-states period China are directed towards heart-mind-nature theory and practical wisdom,typically tending to express thoughts on the realization of human natural propensities and the elevation of mind and spirit.
