摘要
霍译《红楼梦》在诗学形态上呈现出诸多独创之处,其中最为显著的是分卷命名。在美国学者浦安迪提出的中国奇书文体"百回模式"和"十乘十结构"理论关照下,文章从霍译《红楼梦》分卷命名及其回目中发掘出一条明晰的叙事链条,进而论证分卷命名能够将隐匿于原文回目里的叙事结构显化。霍氏的分卷命名一定程度上消解了西方读者对中国奇书文体缺乏"结构"的偏见,很大程度上促进了《红楼梦》在英语世界专业读者群体中的接受度和经典化,还有助于中国奇书文体更加有效地"走出去"。
There are many unique features in the poetology of The Story of the Stone by David Hawks with the volumes and the corresponding titles of the translation being the most conspicuous feature.Under the guidance of One-hundred Chapters Narrative Structure and its substructures by Andrew Plaks,this paper discovers a clear narrative line from the five volumes by David Hawks in his translation of The Story of the Stone.This further proves that the strategy of making different volumes out of the original enables the narrative structure in the translation to be more conspicuous than that of the original.Such a strategy adopted by David Hawks in his translation is able to eradicate the bias of the readers in the West that Qishu Style(Ming-Qing Novel)is not conspicuously structured and to a large extent it has facilitated the acceptance and canonization of The Story of the Stone among the professional readers in the English-speaking countries.Additionally,such a strategy is conducive to the going out of the Chinese literary works of Qishu Style in a more efficient and effective way.
