This research focuses on the relationship of food markets in urban space and everyday food buying behavior in a resident-oriented and community-oriented perspective, rather than a facility-oriented one in the traditional planning paradigm.By observing and interviewing the residents in the two comnunities J and L,the research examines the characteristics of food buying space and food buying practice, followed by a reflection on the suitability of current planning paradigm in an era of inventory planning. It is pointed out in the conclusion that the functional space of food buying is continuously changing towards a wider variety with the enriched food demand, and that the spatial practice of daily life based on the food buying behavior of individual residents demonstrates a more flexible and multi-level structure. It is further indicated that in the transition of urban space from incremental to inventory, the current planning standard gradually becomes outdated from the urban socio-economic demand, and that the future planning paradigm should focus more on functions rather than facilities, and respond to the different demands of people and different conditions of local environment.
