Objective To study the clinic effects of minimally invasive anatomic plate fixation in treatment of distal tibial fractures. Methods 21 patients with distal tibial fractures were treated from Jan. 2000 to Mar. 2002 with indirect reduction, small incision and fixation with an anatomic plate of distal tibia. Results The follow ups of 18 cases averaged 13.7 months. All fractures healed in 3 to 5 months after operation without malunion and breakage of the plate. About 89 percent of the injured lower extremities recovered normal motion and good joint functions. Conclusions Anatomic plate of distal tibia has advantages of reasonable design and steady fixation. The techniques of indirect reduction and minimal invasion can meet the requirements of biological osteosynthesis.
