摘要
西方传教士很早就在湖北地区从事传教和其他社会活动,特别是鸦片战争后,《南京条约》等不平等条约的签订使教会势力快速发展。在祸害湖北人民的同时,传教士修建教堂、兴办学校和医院、出版刊物、参与社会慈善等,推动了湖北的政治、教育、文化、医疗、科技、社会救助等事业的发展。对西方传教士在湖北地区的活动和影响进行研究,有助于我们辨证地看待这一历史现象,研究发展汉水文化,发展湖北旅游等。
Western missionaries have come to Hubei Province to carry out missionary work and other social activities in very early years,especially after the Second Opium War when Treaty of Nanking and other unequal treaties were signed,the church power was expanded,besides bring disasters to Hubei peoples,they built churches,set up schools and hospitals,published books and newspapers and so on,which has promoted the development of Hubei's politics,education,culture,medicare,science,and social assistance.A comprehensive study of western missionaries' activities in Hubei Province and the influences will help us better understand the influence,develop Hanjiang River Culture and Hubei tourism.
