人工智能如何影响污染排放——一种倒“U”型关系的解释

How Artificial Intelligence Affects Pollution Emissions:An Interpretation on the Inverted"U-shaped"Relationship

摘要 人工智能为环境污染治理提供了新路径与新手段,对推进生态文明建设具有重要意义。选取2010—2023年我国30个省级面板数据,综合运用双向固定效应模型、机制检验模型、调节效应模型等方法,实证探究人工智能对污染排放的影响。研究发现,人工智能对污染排放具有显著影响,呈现先增大后减小的倒“U”型特征。机制检验表明,人工智能主要通过能源消耗效应和技术创新效应对污染排放产生倒“U”型影响。异质性分析表明,人工智能的减污效应在东部地区最显著,中部地区次之,西部地区最弱;相比于非长江经济带而言,人工智能影响污染排放的“拐点”在长江经济带更早到来,抑制效应更加明显。调节效应分析发现,市场化程度与研发投入强度调节了人工智能对污染排放的影响,强化了两者间的倒“U”型关系。 Artificial intelligence provides new ways and means for environmental pollution control,which is of great significance for win-ning the battle of pollution prevention and control and building ecological civilization.This paper empirically investigates the impact of AI on pollution emissions based on panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2010 to 2023,using a variety of models such as bidirectional fixed-effects model,IV-2SLS model,mechanism-testing model,panel nonparametric model,and moderating effects model.It is found that AI has a significant impact on pollution emissions,and shows an inverted"U"shape characteristic of increasing first and then decreasing.The mecha-nism test reveals that AI has a nonlinear impact on pollution emissions mainly through the energy consumption effect and technological inno-vation effect.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the pollution reduction effect of AI is most significant in the eastern region and weakest in the western region;Compared with the non-Yangtze Economic Belt,the"inflection point"of AI's impact on pollution emission comes earlier in the Yangtze Economic Belt,and the inhibitory effect is more obvious.The analysis of the moderating effect reveals that the degree of marketi-zation and the intensity of R&D investment moderates the impact of AI on pollution emissions,and strengthens the inverted"U-shaped"rela-tionship between the two.
