Text or Practice? A Response to “Academic Values and Queries of the Concept of 'Interaction between Li and Su'”

摘要 礼俗互动是跨学科的学术论题。回应潘斌教授对礼的历史性与中国特殊性的强调,期望有助于在社会科学本土化的今天,探讨礼俗作为一对理论范畴所具有的跨越时空的理论潜力与价值。礼的历史性并不是固定化礼,相反,承认礼的历史性不仅意味着承认它与过去的联系,更要承认它在历史过程中的变化。礼俗互动不是礼和俗作为两个独立的、具有固定边界的领域之间单向或双向的交流互动,而是始终处于彼此对照依存、转化相生而循环往复的社会实践过程之中。礼俗的互动相生构成了一个动态性转化的机制,在从俗到礼、从礼到俗的循环实践中,既实现了礼的教化作用,又充分地包容了多元差异的文化实践,实现了多元性与一致性的动态转化与辩证统一。与礼俗相关的讨论,可以启发我们思考人类文化包容多元性与统一性的更多可能性。 The interaction between li and su(礼俗)is an interdisciplinary topic.In response to Prof.Pan Bin's emphasis on the historicity and uniqueness of li in Chinese culture,from the perspective of localization of social sciences,this paper explores the theoretical potentials and value of li and su as a pair of theoretical categories across time and space.The historicity of li does not entail that li is fixed or rigid.On the contrary,acknowledging the historicity of li means not only acknowledging its connection with the past,but also acknowledging its changes in the historical process.The interaction between li and su is not a one-way or two-way communication or interaction between two independent fields with fixed boundaries.Rather,li and su are in the circulation process of social practices within which li and su rely on,transform into,and generate each other constantly.In the dynamic transformation process from su to li and then li to su,the cultivation of li is achieved through incorporating different cultural practices,thus embracing diversity as well as uniformity in a dialectical transformation.It hence sheds great lights on more potentials for human cultures to balance diversity and uniformity.
