墨尔本天后宫是迄今南半球最大的妈祖宫殿建筑群,其筹备兴建历时35年,是澳大利亚妈祖文化复兴的典型代表,也是妈祖文化在海外特别是在西方国家传播的成功案例。通过实地调查、文献资料检索和收集天后宫刊物及发起人的传记资料,详细介绍墨尔本天后宫筹建的历史过程和主要人物,凸显澳洲本土和海外多方民间力量以及澳洲政府对妈祖文化社区建设的支持。与此同时,也描述了天后圣像、妈祖宫殿建筑群的主要细节。墨尔本天后宫的筹建案例,可为妈祖文化、中华传统文化在海外的传承和澳洲多元文化的持续发展提供有益借鉴。
Melbourne Tianhou Palace is the largest Mazu Palace complex in the southern hemisphere up to now.Its preparation and construction lasted 35 years.It is a typical representative of the revival of Mazu culture in Australia and a successful case of the spread of Mazu culture overseas,especially in western countries.Through field investigation,literature review and collection of the publications of the Tianhou Palace and the biographical data of its sponsors,this paper introduces in detail the historical process and main characters of the preparation for the construction of the Tianhou Palace in Melbourne,highlighting the support of various folk forces in Australia and overseas and the Australian government for the construction of Mazu cultural community.At the same time,it also describes the main details of the Statue of Mazu and Mazu Palace complex.The preparation for the construction of the Tianhou Palace in Melbourne can provide a useful reference for the inheritance of Mazu culture and Chinese traditional culture overseas and the sustainable development of Australian multiculturalism.
