During the 1920s,influenced by the ideologies of the May Fourth Movement, many intellectual women emerged from the domestic sphere to participate in revolutionary endeavors. They received enlightenment in national consciousness amidst the revolutionary tide, concurrently undergoing the tribulations associated with“self”and the disillusionment of“liberation.”Through practice, they perceived the imperative need for a radical overhaul of Chinese society, shifting from seeking individual liberation to contributing to class-based revolution and national liberation struggles. The revolutionary engagement and subjective development of these intellectual women reflect the persistent pursuit of new lifestyles and identities by May Fourth new youth, symbolizing the development of new historical subjects and cultural values.Investigating this transitional phase of development is favorable for comprehending the origins of Chinese revolutionary momentum, the consolidation of the revolutionary forces, and the molding of revolutionary entities.Furthermore,it provides insights into deliberations on individuality and the establishment of values in the process of modernization based on experiences derived from Chinese history.
