摘要
“掉笔”亦称“掉转”“掉尾”“神龙掉尾”,是指文章临结尾时使意脉陡然变向的笔法。其具体表现有两种形态:一种是“转”,即指文章收尾时陡然转折,从而使意脉由正向反逆向变换。这种情况下,“掉笔”又可以称为“反掉”;另一种是“折”,即在文章主体内容结束之后另换话题,以生余波。苏轼在散文创作中颇擅长使用“掉笔”,这从一个侧面体现了他在文章结尾艺术上善于变化出新的精神。运用“掉笔”是古代散文创作的一个悠久传统,体现了古代散文创作对力量、变化之美和隽永义味的追求。它启示我们,要将结尾艺术纳入古代散文研究的视野之中。“掉笔”“掉转”“掉尾”“反掉”等,理应成为今后古代散文研究中的重要概念。
“Meaning-reversal”,also known as“turning around”,“conclusion-reversal”or“topic-change”,refers to the writing manner leading to the change in sense or style towards the end of an article/essay,as is manifest in two specific forms as follows:one is“turning”,that is,an abrupt turn at the end of the article/essay which may result in the meaning change in an opposite direction,and is referred to as“reversal”in such a case. The other is“folding”,that is,changing the topic after the end of the main content of the article/essay,in order to generate the aftermath. Su Shi was quite good at using“meaning-reversal”or“topic-switching”in his prose writing,which shows in one way that he was good at generating some new spirit in the conclusion of the article. The use of“meaning-reversal”or“topic-switching”,a long-standing tradition in ancient prose writing,embodies the pursuit of strength,beauty of change and meaningful taste in ancient prose writing,as well as inspires one to bring the art of conclusion into the domain of ancient prose research. In short,“meaning-reversal”,“conclusion-reversal”or“topic-change”,etc. should be important concepts in the future study of ancient prose.
