So far, media archaeology has always focused on the objects and has failed to respond to the question it poses, "What are the conditions of existence of media" based on the understanding of media. While media ecologies have developed an initial vision of what media is, its imagination has been exhausted in trivial cases, failing to show how the media plays an interactional role in the system. Under the attempts of scholars such as Jussi Parikka and Michael Goddard, the two theories have shown a tendency to move towards each other. When operating a specific case, they can always infiltrate and complement each other in materiality, political and nonlinear dimensions. However, from the perspective of media theory, such encounter is superficial. This paper argues that for a real confluence, the two must start from a common understanding of media, as two wings of media ontology, to respond to the question of how media and man and the world coexist.
