摘要
女性教育是《诺桑觉寺》的主题。奥斯丁借助哥特小说的手法,在凯瑟琳与亨利的爱情—婚姻故事框架中演绎女性教育主题,探讨青年男女如何在社会和时代的压力下寻找自己婚姻的出路,就当时流行的女性教育、婚姻习俗、小说成规和小说阅读等问题表达了自己的看法,指出理性对于情感和想象的重要性,同时为包括哥特小说在内的小说艺术作了辩护。
Women education is the major theme of Northanger Abbey. In this novel, Jane Austen, with the techniques of Gothic fiction, discusses the theme within the framework of love - marriage story of Catherine and Henry, probing into the issue how adolescents seek their way out under the social pressure at their times, and expressing her views upon the current issues of women education, marriage custom, fiction convention and reading. She points out the importance of good sense to sensibility and imagination and defends the fiction including the Gothic.
