摘要
信、达、雅是严复提出的翻译标准,但严复在翻译《天演论》时,却没有遵循这个原则,而是应用“达旨”式翻译手法。文章从时代背景探究其翻译风格改变的历史根源,解释“达旨”式译法的涵义和严译《天演论》获得成功的缘由。
Faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance are the criteria for translation set by YAN Fu. But he didn＇t follow this principle when translating Evolution and Ethics, instead he adopted the style of paraphrase. This article probes into the reasons of the inconsistency on his translation style from the historical background, explaining the connotation of paraphrased translation and the reason why Evolution and Ethics translated by YAN Fu achieved great success.
