The inage of empaistic intertwined dragons on the lintel between Maijishan grotto 169 and 69 have long been mistakenly regarded as Fuxi Nuwa, and normally related to the humanity background of taking Tianshui as Fuxi - Nuxa' s hometown. Based on carefully observing cave images, Buddhism sutra and related documents, and images of dragon decorations in other grottoes, this paper argues that the inage was a common dragon of safeguarding power of Buddha in Buddhism and a numen in the Buddhism world. The image of Maijishan intertwined dragons has no concern with Fuxi Nuwa in Chinese traditional culture.
