摘要
本文主要通过对西方相关文献的检索，从不同的层面上探讨了当代城市规划在城市发展过程中的作用，揭示了城市规划在国家意识形态、政策形成和实施以及城市空间发展中的具体作用形式和基本内容，并揭示了城市规划作用发挥的有限度性，为全面和客观地理解城市规划的作用提供了一个基本框架。
This paper reviews the English literature on the role of urban planning, discussesthe forms .and contents of its effectiveness at different levels of state idcological,policies generated and implementetion, and the built space development. Thispaper gives a framework of understanding the effectiveness and the role of urban planning in the city development
