摘要
如《圣经》巴别塔的故事所表明的那样,人们一直深深向往着建立一种透明、单义的共同语言,将万物的起源和人的根本存在归为一种超验的逻各斯/道,人们不但不对此加以质疑,反而赋予理性的逻各斯/道以解释一切现象的绝对权威。体现在翻译中,便是以“对等”/“信”作为衡量一切译作的惟一准绳。但实践证明,这种基于原作中心的理论的解释力是有限的,这也是人们一直对翻译标准聚讼纷纭的原因之一。体现德里达解构主义观的核心词语“异延”(d ifférance)可作为对这一现象的一种反拨。可为当代翻译研究提供一个新的视角,亦有助于我们对时下的“译者中心”论保持足够的警惕。
Just as the story of the Tower of Babel in Bible indicates, people have been longing to have a transparent common language in order to attribute to a transcendental logas/Tao, the origin of the world and the very human being, which, rather than questioned, has been entitled the absolute authority to interpret everything. In translation studies equivalence/ fidelity is thus considered the unique criterion to evaluate a translated text. This idea based on source-text orientation, nevertheless, is not as universally applicable as expected, which better accounts for the unending argument about translation criteria. Différance, a key word in Derrida' s deeonstructionism, comes to question the traditional Western logocentrism or metaphysics of presence. By negating the determinacy of meaning and dispelling binary oppositions, it opens up new avenues for translation studies and can also help us guard against an overwhelming ' translator-oriented' approach at present.
