摘要
不能将谴责小说看成是"次等"的小说品类,"辞气浮露,笔无藏锋",不是所有谴责小说的通病,而是某些具体作品的缺点。"特缘时势要求"、"以合时人嗜好"是晚清谴责小说生成的原因,如果再加艺术上的精心结撰,就能成为很优秀的作品。
We do not regard 'condemnation novels' as an inferior genre of fictional writing. Such a shortcoming of ' sparing nobody in making critical attacks' as shown in a ' condemnation novel' or two does not characterize all the novels of this kind. Their appearance in the late Qing Dynasty was due to the need of conforming to the historical trend of the time and catering to the taste of readers of the time. If carefully written and artistically flavored, the 'condemnation novels'might become excellent literary works.
