With the continuous development of power electronic devices,intelligent control systems,and other technologies,the voltage level and transmission capacity of voltage source converter (VSC)-high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology will continue to increase,while the system losses and costs will gradually decrease.Therefore,it can be foreseen that VSC-HVDC transmission technology will be more widely applied in future large-scale renewable energy development projects.Adopting VSC-HVDC transmission technology can be used to overcome issues encountered by large-scale renewable energy transmission and integration projects,such as a weak local power grid,lack of support for synchronous power supply,and insufficient accommodation capacity.However,this solution also faces many technical challenges because of the differences between renewable energy and traditional synchronous power generation systems.Based on actual engineering practices that are used worldwide,this article analyzes the technical challenges encountered by integrating large-scale renewable energy systems that adopt the use of VSC-HVDC technology,while aiming to provide support for future research and engineering projects related to VSC-HVDC-based large-scale renewable energy integration projects. 展开更多

A two-dimensional metal model is established to investigate the stealth mechanisms of radar absorbing material (RAM) and plasma when they cover the model together. Using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, the interaction of electromagnetic (EM) waves with the model can be studied. In this paper, three covering cases are considered: a. RAM or plasma covering the metal solely; b. RAM and plasma covering the metal, while plasma is placed outside; e. RAM and plasma covering the metal, while RAM is placed outside. The calculated results show that the covering order has a great influence on the absorption of EM waves. Compared to case a, case b has an advantage in the absorption of relatively high-frequency EM waves (HFWs), whereas case c has an advantage in the absorption of relatively low-frequency EM waves (LFWs). Through the optimization of the parameters of both plasma and RAM, it is hopeful to obtain a broad absorption band by RAM and plasma covering. Near-field attenuation rate and far-field radar cross section (RCS) are employed to compare the different cases. 展开更多

The principle of surface wave plasma discharge in a rectangular cavity is introduced simply based on surface plasmon polariton theory. The distribution of surface-wave electric field at the interface of the plasma-dielectric slab is investigated by using the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method (3D-FDTD) with different slotantenna structures. And the experimental image of discharge with a novel slot antenna array and the simulation of the electric field with this slot antenna array are both displayed. Combined with the distribution of surface wave excitation and experimental results, the numerical simulation performed by using 3D-FDTD is shown to be a useful tool in the computer-aided antenna design for large area planar-type surface-wave plasma sources. 展开更多

A three-dimensional model of a surface-wave plasma (SWP) source is built numerically using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method to investigate the structure of the surface wave propagation along the plasma-dielectric interface and the distributions of electromagnetic fields in the whole system. A good-performance excitation source technique for the waveguide which is pivotal to the simulation is presented. The technique can avoid the dc distortions of magnetic fields caused by the forcing electric wall. An example of simulation is given to confirm the existence of the surface waves. The simulation also shows that the code developed is a useful tool in the computer-aided design of the antenna of the SWP source. 展开更多

A self-consistent and three-dimensional (3D) model of argon discharge in a large-scale rectangular surface-wave plasma (SWP) source is presented in this paper, which is based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) approximation to Maxwell's equations self-consistently coupled with a fluid model for plasma evolution. The discharge characteristics at an input microwave power of 1200 W and a filling gas pressure of 50 Pa in the SWP source are analyzed. The simulation shows the time evolution of deposited power density at different stages, and the 3D distributions of electron density and temperature in the chamber at steady state. In addition, the results show that there is a peak of plasma density approximately at a vertical distance of 3 cm from the quartz window. 展开更多

The principle of surface wave plasma discharge in a rectangular cavity is introduced and the distribution of the electromagnetic field within a rectangular waveguide is analysed. A novel structure of a slot antenna array is presented. In comparison with the traditional slotantenna, it is shown that the designed slot antenna array can excite effectively the surface wave coupling into the chamber, and generate a stable large-area high-density plasma. These results are useful for exploring the optimized design of the slot-antenna for surface wave plasmas. 展开更多

Based on the model of the Wigner-Seitz cell, the surface potential of the spherical macroparticle (radius a) expands in terms of the monopole (q). A dipole (p) model is assumed for an anisotropic boundary condition of the nonlinear Poisson-Boltzmann equation. Using the finite element method implemented by the FlexPDE software, the potential distribution around the macroparticle is obtained for different ratios p/qa. The calculated results for the potential show that there is an attractive region in the vicinity of the macroparticle when Ip/qal〉l.1, and noticeably there is a potential well behind the macroparticle when Ip/qal=l.1, i.e., there exists both an attractive region and a repulsive region simultaneously. This means that the attractive interaction between macroparticles may arise from the anisotropic distribution of the surrounding plasmas, which well explains some experimental observations. 展开更多

This study conducted experiments on producing inhaled medical nitric oxide (iNO) by pulsed arc discharge in dry and clean air under different discharge current. The concentration of NO and NO2 produced by air discharge, as well as the change of the ratio of NO2/NO under different discharge current were investigated. Through the analysis of plasma emission spectrum, the relationship between discharge current and arc plasma temperature was studied. The results indicate that, as discharge current increases, the arc plasma temperature increases, which then leads to the increase of NO concentration, the decrease of NO2 concentration, and the rapid decrease of the ratio of NO2/NO. When the plasma temperature is 9000 K, the ratio of NO2/NO is approximately 60%, while when the plasma temperature varies between 10550 K and 11300 K, the NO2/NO ratio is within the range of 4.2% to 4.6%. 展开更多

The joint TEXT (J-TEXT) tokamak, formerly TEXT/TEXT-U tokamak, operated by the University of Texas at Austin in USA, has been re-built up in Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China. The machine has been run for two experimental campaigns since 2007. Discharges with plasma current beyond 200 kA and duration of 300 ms have been obtained. At present all sub-systems, such as poloidal field (PF) and toroidal field (TF) power supplies, vacuum system, diagnostics systems etc, are successfully integrated into the routine oper- ation. The plasma position can be elaborately controlled within two centimeters. The operational scenario of J-TEXT are typical of the machine and easily understandable compared to the former TEXT/TEXT-U results. 展开更多

Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) is a microorganism that can survive extreme challenges in obturated root canals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma plume against E. faecalis in vitro. A non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma jet device which could generate a cold plasma plume carrying a peak current of 300 mA was used. The antibacterial efficacy of this device against E. faecalis and its biofihn un- der different conditions was detected. The antibacterial efficacy of the plasma against E. faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) was also evaluated. After plasma treatment, the average diameter of inhibition zone on S. aureus and E. faecalis was 2.62±0.26 cm and 1.06±0.30 cm, respectively (P 〈 0.05). The diameter was increased with prolongation of the treatment dura- tion. The diameters of inhibition zone of the sealed Petri dishes were larger than those of the uncovered Petri dishes. There was significant difference in colony-forming units between plasma group and control group on E. faecalis biofilm (P 〈 0.01). The transmission electron microscopy revealed that the ultrastructural changes eytoderm of E. faecalis were observed after treatment for 2min. It is concluded that the non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma could serve as an effective adjunct to standard endodontie microbial treatment. 展开更多

The energy conversion efficiency of a multistage synchronous induction coilgun(MSSICG) has become one of the key factors that restricts its industrialization. To improve the launch efficiency of medium-and high-velocity MSSICG,we propose an optimization design scheme combining orthogonal experimental design(OED) and self-consistent design method in this paper. The OED is introduced to reduce the number of iterations and improve the identification accuracy and efficiency. A self-consistent design model is established to overcome a defect that the parameters that need to be optimized will multiply as the number of coil stages increases. The influence of six factors(radial thickness of armature, axial length of armature, axial length of coil, capacitance, wire diameter, and slip speed) on the launch efficiency are then evaluated by range analysis. Tegillarca granosa,as a popular seafood among consumers,is easily susceptible to pollution from heavy metals.Thus,it is essential to develop a rapid detection method for Tegillarca granosa.For this issue,five categories of Tegillarca granosa samples consisting of a healthy group;Zn,Pb,and Cd polluted groups;and a mixed pollution group of all three metals were used to detect heavy metal pollution by combining laser-induced breakdown spectrometry(LIBS)and the newly proposed linear regression classification-sum of rank difference(LRC-SRD)algorithm.As the comparison models,least regression classification(LRC),support vector machine(SVM),and k-nearest neighbor(KNN)and linear discriminant analysis were also utilized.Satisfactory accuracy(0.93)was obtained by LRC-SRD model and which performs better than other models.This demonstrated that LIBS coupled with LRC-SRD is an efficient framework for Tegillarca granosa heavy metal detection and provides an alternative to replace traditional methods. 展开更多

The dispersion relations of normal modes in the layered constructions are studied. In the frequency region with negative permittivity, we investigate the normal modes near the air-metal and the air-matematerial interfaces and compare them. An extra bulk mode appearing in a pass band of two media is found near the air-matematerial interface, which is different from the air-metal case. Moreover, the bulk mode will be further proved by the attenuated total reflection (ATR) technique, in which the coupling between the incident electromagnetic waves and the normal modes is studied. For p-polarized incident waves, the ATR spectra based on the Otto and the Kretschmann configurations are obtained numerically, where the dips present the excitations of the surface and bulk modes. Furthermore, we also discuss the influences of the middle layer thickness, the incident angle and the damping term on the reflection in detail. It is found that the coupling frequencies and the maximum strength are strongly dependent on the above media parameters. 展开更多

A three-dimensional fluid model for surface-wave plasma (SWP), to investigate the discharge characteristics of a rectangular SWP source working in a steady state, was presented. The simulation is performed for different gas pressures in argon and different deposited powers. The results showed that there is a peak of plasma density at a distance of 2 cm to 3 cm from the plasma-quartz interface whose position depends mainly on the gas pressure but not the deposited power. The spatial distributions of plasma parameters and their dependence on the gas pressure and deposited power are also presented and discussed. Using this model a good agreement between the simulation results and the available experimental data is obtained. 展开更多

Dependence of the wave attenuation on both plasma parameters and incident wave angle are obtained. It is indicated that for a given electron density profile the attenuation depends strongly on the incident angle, the wave frequency, the width of plasma layer, and the collision frequency between electrons and neutrals. 展开更多

The propagating behaviours, i.e. phase shift, transmissivity, reflectivity and absorp- tivity, of an electromagnetic (EM) wave in a two-dimensional atmospheric pressure plasma layer are described by the numerical solutions of integral-differential Maxwell's equations through a generalized finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) algorithm. These propagating behaviours are found to be strongly affected by five factors: two EM wave characteristics relevant to the oblique incident and three dimensionless factors.
