The electron beam local post weld heat treatment (EBLPWHT) is a rather new heat treatment procedure that provides the advantages of high precision, flexibility and efficiency, energy saving and higher productivity. In this paper, the microstructure, mechanical properties, fracture toughness and fatigue properties of electron beam welded joints of 30CrMnSiNi2A steel in as-welded (AW) and EBLPWHT conditions have been investigated respectively. The results show that the microstructures of different zones of joints in as-welded condition are changed by EBLPWHT procedure, in which the welds from coarse needle martensite into lath-shaped martensite; the main structures of heat affected zones (HAZ) from lath-shaped martensite into lower bainite. The properties of welded joints can be improved by the EBLPWHT in some extent, especially the fracture toughness of the welds and the fatigue crack resistance of welded joints can be sufficiently improved. However, more appropriate heat treatment parameters of the EBLPWHT have to be studied in order to increase the mechanical properties of base metal near by the HAZ.展开更多

Measurements were carried out before and after isochronal thermal treatment step by step with increasing temperature. For all specimens, the strain dependence of the logarithmic decrement exhibits two regions. At lower strains the logarithmic decrement is strain independent and in the higher strain region it depends strongly on strain amplitude. The strain-independent logarithmic decrement is mainly composed of thermoelastic damping and dislocation damping, which can be explained by Granato-Lticke theory. In addition, the strain-independent logarithmic decrement for the specimens annealed at higher temperatures is a little lower than that for as-cast specimen, and it increases with increasing temperature of heat treatment. Microstructure changes due to heat treatment are responsible for changes of the logarithmic decrement.展开更多

The effects of heat treatment of Mn-Cu precursors on alloy phase, morphology and composition of the resultant nanoporous copper were investigated. It is revealed that the compositions distribute homogeneously in the bulk Mn-Cu precursors, which consequently results in a more fully dealloying for forming nanoporous copper. The alloy phase changes from Cuo.a9Mno.51 and Cuo.21Mno.79 of non-thermally treated precursor to Cuo.33Mn0.67 of heat treated alloy. The residual Mn content in nanoporous copper is decreased from 12.97% to 2.04% (molar fraction) made from the precursor without and with 95 h heat treatment. The typical pore shape of nanoporous copper prepared by dealloying the precursor without the heat treatment is divided into two different zones: the uniform bi-continuous structure zone and the blurry or no pore structure zone. Nanoporous copper is of a uniform sponge-like morphology made from the heat-treated precursor, and the average ligament diameter is 40 nm, far smaller than that from the non-thermally treated precursor, in which the average ligament diameter is estimated to be about 70 nm.展开更多

The effects of thequenching temperature, tempering time and tempering temperature on the mechanical properties and microstructure of the alloy were investigated. The results show that the hardness decreases, while tensile strength (σb), transverse rupture strength (σbb ) and impact toughness(Kic) increase after the alloy is quenched and tempered. The best complex property ((σb , 446 MPa;) σbb ,793 MPa; Kic, 2.96 J/cm2 ) can be obtained when the alloy is quenched at 1 100 ℃ and tempered at 650 ℃. The results of X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) show that the major streng-(thening) phases are carbides such as (Fe,Cr)7C3 and Fe2MoC. The obvious secondary hardening appears when the alloy is tempered at 550 ℃,which results from the precipitated carbides of Cr and Mo in the alloy from the matrix and the heat-resistant retained austenite .展开更多

The microstructures, phases, residual stresses and retained austenite content of 1Cr5 Mo steel welding joint before and after LHT were analyzed with optical microscope and X-ray diffraction, respectively. The cracking morphologies and chemical compositions of corrosion products after salt spray corrosion were analyzed with field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) and energy disperse spectroscopy(EDS), respectively, the polarization curves were measured on a PS-268 A type electrochemical workstation, and the mechanism of corrosion resistance by LHT was investigated as well. The results show that the passive film of original sample is destroyed owing to the corrosive media penetrating into the subsurface, resulting in the redox reaction. The content of residual austenite in the surface and the self-corrosion potential are increased by LHT, which is contributed to improving the capability of salt spray corrosion resistance.展开更多

The spheroidization ratio of cementite and the average size of particles increase with increasing the cyclic number of heat treatment. After5-cycle heat treatment, the spheroidization ratio of cementite is 100%, and the average size of the cementite particles is about0.53 μm. After cyclic heat treatment, the hardness, ultimate tensile strength and yield strength of the experimental steel gradually decrease with increasing cyclic number of heat treatment. The elongation of the as-received specimens is about 7.4%, the elongation of the 1-cycle specimen is 14.3%, and the elongation of 5-cycle specimen reaches a peak value of 22.5%, thereafter marginally decreases to 18.3% after 6-cycle heat treatment. Accordingly, the fractured surface initially exhibits the regions of wavy lamellar fracture. By increasing the cyclic number of heat treatment cycles, the regions of dimples consume the entire fractured surface gradually. Some large dimples can be found in the fracture surface of the specimen subjected to six heat treatment cycles.展开更多

A midexplosion recovery experiment for the metal cylinder under internal explosive loading was designed, and the wreckage of the casings at the intermediate phase was obtained. The effects of different tempering temperatures on the macroscopic and microscopic fracture characteristics of 40 Cr Mn Si B steel were studied. The influence of tempering temperatures on the fracture characteristic parameters of the recovered wreckage were measured and analyzed, including the circumferential divide size, the thickness and the number of the circumferential divisions. The results show that as the tempering temperature was increased from 350 to 600 ℃, at first, the degree of fragmentation and the fracture characteristic parameters of the recovered wreckage changed significantly and then became essentially consistent. Scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed flow-like structure characteristics caused by adiabatic shear on different fracture surfaces. At the detonation initiation end of the casing, fracturing was formed by tearing along the crack, which existed a distance from the initiation end and propagated along the axis direction. In contrast, the fracturing near the middle position consists of a plurality of radial shear fracture units. The amount of alloy carbide that was precipitated during the tempering process increased continuously with tempering temperature, leading to an increasing number of spherical carbide particles scattered around the fracture surface.展开更多

文摘The effects of heat treatment and strontium(Sr) addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ADC1_(2) alloys were investigated, and two-stage solution treatment was introduced. The results indicated that the addition of Sr obviously refined the microstructure of ADC12 alloys. When 0.05 wt%Sr was added into the alloy, the eutectic Si phase was fully modified into fine fibrous structure;a-A1 andβ-A1_(5)FeSi phases were best refined;and the eutectic AlzCu phase was modified into block-like AlzCu phase that continuously distributed at the grain boundary. The ultimate tensile strength(UTS)(270.63 MPa)and elongation(3.19%)were increased by 51.2%and 73.4%respectively compared with unmodified alloys. After the two-stage solution treatment(500℃,6 h+520℃,4 h),for 0.05 wt%Sr modified ADC12 alloys, the Si phases transformed into fine particle structure and Al_(2)Cu phases were fully dissolved. The peak hardness value of the alloys processed by the two-stage solution treatment was increased by 8.3%and 6.8%respectively compared to solution treatment at 500℃and 520℃.After the aging treatment(175℃,7 h),the hardness and UTS were increased by 38.73%and 13.96%respectively when compared with the unmodified alloy.
文摘Strain amplitude dependence of the logarithmic decrement was measured and studied on an AZ61 magnesium alloy at room temperature. Microstructure changes due to heat treatment are responsible for changes of the logarithmic decrement.

文摘B4C/6061Al composites reinforced with nano-to micrometer-sized B4C particles were fabricated via powder metallurgy route consisting of spark plasma sintering(SPS)and hot extrusion and rolling(HER),followed by T6 treatment. The microstructural evolution and mechanical properties were investigated. Results showed that the status of B4C particles changed from a network after SPS to a dispersion distribution after HER.The substructured grains reached 66.5%owing to the pinning effect of nano-sized B4C,and the grain size was refined from 3.12μm to 1.56μm after HER.After T6 treatment, dispersed Mg_(2)Si precipitated phases formed, and the grain size increased to 1.87μm.Fine recrystallized grains around micro-sized B4C were smaller than those in the areas with uniform distribution of nano-sized B4C and Mg_(2)Si.The stress distributions of as-rolled and heated composites were similar, considering that the T6 heat treatment was only effective in eliminating the first internal stress. The Vickers, microhardness, and tensile strength of as-SPSed composites were greatly improved from HV 55.45,0.86 GPa,and 180 MPa to HV 77.51,1.08 GPa,and 310 MPa,respectively.Despite the precipitation strengthening, the corresponding values of as-heated composites decreased to HV 70.82,0.85 GPa,and 230 MPa owing to grain coarsening.

文摘The dynamic mechanical properties of rock specimens after thermal treatment in the air-filled environment(AE:i.e.,at the free surface)have been extensively investigated, yet they are rarely estimated in the quasi-vacuum environment(VE:i.e.,far from free surface),which is of special importance in engineering practice.Several precise laboratory tests(i.e.,split Hopkinson pressure bar test)on marble samples in both AE and VE were performed to investigate physical and dynamic mechanical behaviors of marble after heat treatment(25℃ to 900℃)in AE and VE.The tests results demonstrate that related properties of marble could be divided into three different stages by corresponding critical temperatures of 300℃ and 600℃,at which heat damage factors are 0.29(0.30)and 0.88(0.92)in VE(AE),respectively. The thermal damage developes more fully in AE than in VE.The thermal environment plays an important role, especially in Stage 3.Specifically,a conspicuous difference(greater than 20%)between AE and VE occurs in corresponding dynamic strength and the anti-deformation capacities of tested marble specimen. The influence of heat damage of rock is very important and valuable in engineering practice, particularly when the temperature is very high(greater than 600℃).

文摘Nanoporous copper with nano-scale pore size was synthesized by dealloying Mn-Cu precursor alloy using a free corrosion method. Nanoporous copper is of a uniform sponge-like morphology made from the heat-treated precursor, and the average ligament diameter is 40 nm, far smaller than that from the non-thermally treated precursor, in which the average ligament diameter is estimated to be about 70 nm.
文摘In the present work, paraffin phase change material is used as quenchant for the heat treatment of 42CrMo4 alloy and compared with water, air, and CuO doped paraffin. The samples were prepared based on ASTM E 8M-98 standard for tensile test and then heated up to 830°C,kept for 4 h in an electric resistance furnace and then quenched in the mentioned media.Elastic modulus, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, elongation, and modulus of toughness were determined according to the obtained stress?strain curves. Moreover, the hardness and microstructural evolution were investigated after the heat treatment at different media. The samples quenched in paraffin and CuO-doped paraffin are higher in ultimate tensile strength(1439 and 1306 MPa,respectively)than those quenched in water(1190 MPa)and air(1010 MPa).The highest hardness, with a value of HV 552,belonged to the sample quenched in CuO-doped paraffin. The microstructural studies revealed that the non-tempered steel had a ferrite/pearlite microstructure, while by quenching in water, paraffin and CuO-doped paraffin,ferrite/martensite microstructures were achieved. It is also observed that using the air as quenchant resulted in a three-phase bainite/martensite/ferrite microstructure.
文摘A kind of Fe-Co-Ni-Cr-Mo-C alloy was designed for valve seat use. The obvious secondary hardening appears when the alloy is tempered at 550 ℃,which results from the precipitated carbides of Cr and Mo in the alloy from the matrix and the heat-resistant retained austenite .

文摘Mg-Zn binary alloys fabricated by the gas-phase alloying technique under vacuum condition were investigated in the state of initial state and after heat treatment for the microstructure and electrochemical behaviors.Different from the traditional Mg-Zn alloys preparation methods, alloys prepared by gas-phase alloying have a large number of intermetallic compounds, such as MgZn,Mg7Zn3 and MgZn2.After solution treatment, the boundary of the eutectic disappeared and the size ofα-Mg increased from 100μm to 150μm.At the same time, the value of the resistance of charge transfer increased, which indicates that the resistance of the charge transfer and the corrosion resistance of the alloys increased. After artificial aging treatment, the distribution ofα-Mg was more uniform and its size was reduced to about 50μm,and there was new eutectic structure formed. The newly formed eutectic structure forms galvanic cells with the alloy matrix, which makes the corrosion resistance of the alloy weaken.

文摘The surface of 1Cr5 Mo heat-resistant steel welding joint was processed with CO2 laser, and the corrosion behaviors before and after laser heat treatment(LHT) were investigated in the salt spray corrosion environments. The content of residual austenite in the surface and the self-corrosion potential are increased by LHT, which is contributed to improving the capability of salt spray corrosion resistance.
文摘The Fe-based coatings in powder form were deposited on a steel type E335 by flame spraying technique. The effects of the post heat treatment on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of sprayed coatings were studied.Post heat treatment was conducted in a furnace in air at 623 K,823 K and 1023 K for 1 h and then cooled in air.The results showed that with the increase of annealing temperature, the microstructure of coating treated at 823 K and 1023 K had several changes as follows:the reduction of porosity, formation of carbides and oxides. It was found that the solid solution FCC(Fe,Ni),intermetallic compound AlFe3 and carbides[Fe,C]were the main phases for coatings as-sprayed and treated at 623 K and while iron carbide, molybdenum carbide and oxide as Fe3O4 became the main phases and reinforced the solid solution FCC(Fe,Ni)phase for annealed coatings at 823 K.However,it was observed the disappearance of molybdenum carbide and oxide Fe3O4 at 1023 K.The coating annealed at 823 K exhibited an excellent wear resistance than the as-sprayed and annealed coatings at 623 K and 1023 K and shows the lower wear rate than another coating treated or as sprayed.
文摘An annealed 50 Cr V4 steel was subjected to cyclic heat treatment process that consists of repeated short-duration(200 s)held at 840 °C(above Ac3 temperature of 790 °C) and short-duration(100 s) held at 700 °C(below Ac1 temperature of 710 °C). Some large dimples can be found in the fracture surface of the specimen subjected to six heat treatment cycles.

文摘In this study, 40 Cr Mn Si B steel cylindrical shells were tempered at 350, 500 and 600 ℃ to study the effect of tempering temperature on the dynamic process of expansion and fracture of the metal shell. The amount of alloy carbide that was precipitated during the tempering process increased continuously with tempering temperature, leading to an increasing number of spherical carbide particles scattered around the fracture surface.
文摘The basic glass of Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 system using P2O5 as nucleator was prepared by means of conventional melt quenching technology, and the heat-treatment process was determined by using differential thermal analysis. The crystalline phases and the microstructure of the glass-ceramics were investigated by using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the glass based on Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 oxides using P2O5 as nucleator can be prepared at lower melt temperature of 1 450 ℃ and the glass-ceramics with lower thermal expansion coefficient of 21.6×10-7 ℃-1 can also be obtained at 750 ℃. The glass-ceramics contain a few crystal phases in which the main crystal phase is β-quartz solid solution and the second crystal phase is β-spodumene solid solution. When the heat treatment temperature is not higher than 650 ℃, the transparent glass-ceramics containing β-quartz solid solution can be prepared. β-quartz solid solution changes into β-spodumene solid solution at about 750 ℃. And the appearance of the glass-ceramics changes from translucent, part opaque to complete opaque with increasing (temperature.)

文摘The effects of heat treatment(heating temperature and pH) on the structures and emulsifying properties of caseins were systematically studied by spectroscopy.Heat treatment from 60to 100℃resulted in an increase in their fluorescence intensity, hydrodynamic diameter, turbidity and emulsifying activity index, but decreased the size polydispersity of caseins. In the pH range of 5.5to 7.0,the fluorescence intensity, hydrodynamic diameter, turbidity and emulsifying properties decreased with increased heating pH,but the size polydispersity of caseins increased with increased pH.The relationship between the surface fluorescence intensity and emulsifying activity was also investigated, revealing a correlation coefficient of 0.90.These results suggested that heat treatment could be used to modify the structures and emulsifying properties of caseins by appropriately selecting heating conditions.

文摘The microstructures and mechanical properties of Al-6Zn-2Mg-1.5Cu-0.4Er alloy under different treatment conditions were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation, and tensile properties and hardness test, respectively. The relationship between mechanical properties and microstructures of the alloys was discussed. With trace Er addition to A1-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy, Er and Al interact to form Al3Er phase, which is coherent with a(A1) matrix. The results show that Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy after retrogression and re-ageing (RRA) heat treatment exhibits higher tensile strength, ductility and conductivity.
