An example is presented and numerical results are compared. The results show that the additional longitudinal forces calculated with the new model are less than those of the previous, especially in the case of the flexible pier bridges. The new model is also suitable for the analysis of the additional longitudinal force transmission between rails and bridges of ballastless track with small resistance fasteners without taking the sleeper displacement into account, and compared with the ballast bridges, the ballastless bridges have a much stronger additional longitudinal force transmission between the continuously welded rails and the bridges.展开更多

Production of these joints by fusion welding faces many dif ficulties. This may be due to the differences in their physical, metallurgical a nd mechanical properties. Electron Beam Welding (EBW) process has been found to be especially well suited in this area. Selection of the appropriate welding par ameters needs thorough investigations. These parameters include: preheat tempera ture (℃), welding current (I w), focusing current (I F), welding spee d (V), height between the gun and workpiece surface (H), scan width (S w) and shift distance (S). The present work aims firstly, setting the pr oper welding conditions to get sound joint between commercially pure copper (C10 200) and AISI 316 stainless steel plates 8 mm thickness. Secondly, investigate t he effect of Electron Beam (EB) shift, single-sided and double-sided welds on the mechanical, metallurgical and chemical properties of the weld bead. Due to t he high difference in thermal conductivity between copper and stainless steel, E lectron Beam (EB) was shifted towards copper with different values. These values were ranged from 0.3 to 0.9 mm in welding without preheating of copper plate an d from 0.1 to 0.4 mm with preheating. Number of joints were welded using variabl e EBW parameters in view to obtain the sound weld bead. These parameters are as follows: gradual reduction I w=51 to 49 mA, I F=845 mA, V=8 mm/sec , H=130 mm, S w=500 μm and S=0.4 mm. The investigation has shown t hat, the copper (C10200) plate must be preheated to get sound welded joint with AISI 316 stainless steel using the EBW process. The tensile fracture in all wel ded samples occurred in copper plate away from the weld bead. This reflects that the weld bead tensile strength is greater than the copper strength. The EB shif t has slight effect on hardness distribution through weld bead. The hardness val ue (H v) reduces in gradual manner from stainless steel hardness to copper one. The EB shift distance has no significant effect on the impact toughness.展开更多

The results show that the apparent recrystallization does not happen in heat-affected zone. It proves that Al-Mg(Sc,Zr) alloy has a high capability of resistance to welding heat-soften. Using Al-Mg-Sc welding wire as filling material can obviously refine the grains of weld seam and improve its strength. The layer of small equal-axe grains in fusion area improves the joint strength between welded metal and base metal. The coefficients of welded joints when Al-Mg-Sc and Al-Mg welding wire are used as filling material are greater than 0. 90, respectively. The yield strength of welded joints with Al-Mg welding wire is only 187 MPa, one is as high as 287 MPa with A1-Mg-Sc welding wire, thus the working strength of the welded unit is greatly improved.展开更多

The electron beam local post weld heat treatment (EBLPWHT) is a rather new heat treatment procedure that provides the advantages of high precision, flexibility and efficiency, energy saving and higher productivity. In this paper, the microstructure, mechanical properties, fracture toughness and fatigue properties of electron beam welded joints of 30CrMnSiNi2A steel in as-welded (AW) and EBLPWHT conditions have been investigated respectively. The results show that the microstructures of different zones of joints in as-welded condition are changed by EBLPWHT procedure, in which the welds from coarse needle martensite into lath-shaped martensite; the main structures of heat affected zones (HAZ) from lath-shaped martensite into lower bainite. The properties of welded joints can be improved by the EBLPWHT in some extent, especially the fracture toughness of the welds and the fatigue crack resistance of welded joints can be sufficiently improved. However, more appropriate heat treatment parameters of the EBLPWHT have to be studied in order to increase the mechanical properties of base metal near by the HAZ.展开更多

Now the dissimilar metal joints are especially popular in defense, aerospace, automobile, bio-medical,refinery and nuclear engineerings. In friction welding, some special alloys with dual phase are not joined successfully due to poor bonding strength. The alloy surfaces after bonding also have metallurgical changes in the line of interfacing. The reported research work in this area is scanty. Although the sound weld zone of direct bonding between Tie6Ale4 V and SS304 L was obtained though many trials, the joint was not successful. In this paper, the friction welding characteristics between Tie6Ale4 V and SS304 L into which pure oxygen free copper(OFC) was introduced as interlayer were investigated. Boxe Behnken design was used to minimize the number of experiments to be performed. The weld joint was analyzed for its mechanical strength. The highest tensile strength between Tie6Ale4 V and SS304 L between which pure copper was used as insert metal was acquired. Micro-structural analysis and elemental analysis were carried out by EDS, and the formation of intermetallic compound at the interface was identified by XRD analysis.展开更多

In the current investigation, artificial neural network(ANN) technique was employed to predict the microhardness of AA6061 friction stir welded plates. Specimens were welded employing triangular and tapered cylindrical pins. The effects of thread and conical shoulder of each pin profile on the microhardness of welded zone were studied using tow ANNs through the different distances from weld centerline. It is observed that using conical shoulder tools enhances the quality of welded area. Besides, in both pin profiles threaded pins and conical shoulders increase yield strength and ultimate tensile strength. 文摘This paper presents a model of fatigue crack growth in a welded joint and a two-dimensional model of anodic dissolution based on Donahue model and anodic dissolution mechanism, respectively. In addition,a model for predicting the corrosion fatigue crack growth rate in welded joints of steel marine structures is established and crack growth mechanisms are analyzed. The results show that during early stages of crack growth, corrosion fatigue crack growth rate in welded joints is mainly controlled by corrosion action, whereas cyclic loading becomes more influential during the later stage of crack propagation.Loading frequency and effective stress ratio can affect rupture period of protective film at the corrosion fatigue crack tip and the length of corrosion crack increment, respectively, which changes the influence of corrosion action on crack growth rate. However, the impact of stress amplitude on crack growth rate is only significant when crack propagation is caused by cyclic loading.Welding residual stress not only improves the effective stress ratio of cyclic loading, but also promotes crack closure and increases corrosion fatigue crack growth rate in welded joints.Compared to corrosion action, welding residual stress has a more significant influence on crack growth caused by cyclic loading.

文摘The microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar pinless friction stir spot welded joint of2A12aluminum alloy and TC4titanium alloy were evaluated. The results show that the joint of Al/Ti dissimilar alloys can be successfully attained through pinless friction stir spot welding(FSSW).The joint can be divided into three zones(SZ,TMAZ and HAZ).The microstructure of joint in Al alloy side changes significantly but it basically has no change in Ti alloy side.At the same rotation speed, the maximum load of welded joints gradually rises with the increase in dwell time.At the same dwell time, the maximum load of the welded joint increases with the increase of the rotational speed. In addition, optimal parameters were obtained in this work, and they are rotation speed of1500r/min,plunge speed of30mm/min,plunge depth of0.3mm and dwell time of15s.The fracture mode of welded joints is interfacial shear fracture. The microhardness of the joint on the Al side distributes in a typical“W”type and is symmetry along the weld center, but the distribution of the microhardness on the Ti side has no obvious change.
文摘A new mechanics model, which reveals additional longitudinal force transmission between the continuously welded rails and the bridges, is established on the fact that the influence of the mutual relative displacement (among) the rail, the sleeper and the beam is taken into account. An example is presented and numerical results are compared. The results show that the additional longitudinal forces calculated with the new model are less than those of the previous, especially in the case of the flexible pier bridges. The new model is also suitable for the analysis of the additional longitudinal force transmission between rails and bridges of ballastless track with small resistance fasteners without taking the sleeper displacement into account, and compared with the ballast bridges, the ballastless bridges have a much stronger additional longitudinal force transmission between the continuously welded rails and the bridges.
文摘Joints of copper and stainless steels are used in a er ospace applications. The EB shift distance has no significant effect on the impact toughness.

文摘Mechanical properties and microstructure of Al-Mg-(Sc, Zr) welded joint prepared by manual labor melt inert gas(MIG) welding method using Al-Mg and Al-Mg-Sc weld wire as filling materials were studied comparatively. The yield strength of welded joints with Al-Mg welding wire is only 187 MPa, one is as high as 287 MPa with A1-Mg-Sc welding wire, thus the working strength of the welded unit is greatly improved.
文摘A systematic approach was presented to develop the empirical model for predicting the ultimate tensile strength of AA5083-H111 aluminum alloy which is widely used in ship building industry by incorporating friction stir welding(FSW) process parameters such as tool rotational speed, welding speed, and axial force.FSW was carried out considering three-factor five-level central composite rotatable design with full replications technique.Response surface methodology(RSM) was applied to developing linear regression model for establishing the relationship between the FSW process parameters and ultimate tensile strength.Analysis of variance(ANOVA) technique was used to check the adequacy of the developed model. The FSW process parameters were also optimized using response surface methodology(RSM) to maximize the ultimate tensile strength. The joint welded at a tool rotational speed of 1 000 r/min,a welding speed of 69 mm/min and an axial force of 1.33 t exhibits higher tensile strength compared with other joints.
文摘To improve the microstructure and properties of the electron beam welded joints, the vacuum or furnace whole post weld heat treatment (FWPWHT) usually should be done on it. However, more appropriate heat treatment parameters of the EBLPWHT have to be studied in order to increase the mechanical properties of base metal near by the HAZ.
文摘Multi-pass TIG welding was conducted on plates(15×300×180 mm^(3))of aluminum alloy Al-5083 that usually serves as the component material in structural applications such as cryogenics and chemical processing industries.Porosity formation and solidification cracking are the most common defects when TIG welding Al-5083 alloy, which is sensitive to the welding heat input. In the experiment, the heat input was varied from 0.89 kJ/mm to 5 kJ/mm designed by the combination of welding torch travel speed and welding current.Tensile,micro-Vicker hardness and Charpy impact tests were executed to witness the impetus response of heat input on the mechanical properties of the joints.Radiographic inspection was performed to assess the joint’s quality and welding defects. The results show that all the specimens displayed inferior mechanical properties as compared to the base alloy. It was established that porosity was progressively abridged by the increase of heat input. The results also clinched that the use of medium heat input(1-2 kJ/mm)offered the best mechanical properties by eradicating welding defects,in which only about 18.26% of strength was lost. The yield strength of all the welded specimens remained unaffected indica ted no influence of heat input.Partially melted zone(PMZ)width also affected by heat input, which became widened with the increase of heat input. The grain size of PMZ was found to be coarser than the respective grain size in the fusion zone.Charpy impact testing revealed that the absorbed energy by low heat input specimen(welded at high speed)was greater than that of high heat input(welded at low speed)because of low porosity and the formation of equiaxed grains which induce better impact toughness.Cryogenic(-196℃)impact testing was also performed and the results corroborate that impact properties under the cryogenic environment revealed no appreciable change after welding at designated heat input. Finally,Macro and micro fractured surfaces of tensile and impact specimens were analyzed using Stereo and Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),which have supported the experimental findings.
文摘The effects of postweld heat treatment on the microstructure and metallurgical properties of a bronze–carbon steel(st37)explosively bonded interface were studied.Explosive welding was done under 1.5-and 2-mm standoff distances and different conditions of explosive charge.Samples were postweld heat treated for 4 and 16 h in the furnace at 250°C and 500°C and then air cooled.Laboratory studies using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and microhardness testing were used to evaluate the welded samples.Microstructural examinations showed that by increasing the standoff distance and the explosive charge, the interface of bronze to steel became wavier. The microhardness test result showed that the hardness of the samples was higher near the joint interface compared with other areas because of the intensive plastic deformation, which was caused by the explosion force. The results show that increasing the heat treatment temperature and time caused the intermetallic compounds’layer thickness to increase, and, because of the higher diffusion of copper and tin,the iron amount in the intermetallic compounds decreased. Also, because of the increase in heat treatment temperature and time, internal stresses were released, and the interface hardness decreased.
文摘The basic principle of friction welding is intermetallic bonding at the stage of super plasticity attained with self-generating heat due to friction and finishing at upset pressure. Micro-structural analysis and elemental analysis were carried out by EDS, and the formation of intermetallic compound at the interface was identified by XRD analysis.
文摘The plates of AA5086 aluminium alloy were joined together by friction stir welding at a fixed rotation speed of 1000 r/min various welding speeds ranging from 63 to 100 mm/min.Corrosion behavior of the parent alloy(PA),the heat affected zone(HAZ),and the weld nugget zone(WNZ)of the joints were studied in 3.5%(mass fraction)aerated aqueous Na Cl solution by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).The corrosion susceptibility of the weldments increases when the welding speed increases to 63 and 100 mm/min.However,the value of corrosion rate in the weldments is lower than that in the PA.Additionally, the corrosion current density increases with increasing the welding speed in the HAZ and the WNZ.On the contrary, the corrosion potential in the WNZ appears more positive than in the HAZ with decreasing the welding speed. The WNZ exhibits higher resistance compared to the HAZ and the PA as the welding speed decreases. The results obtained from the EIS measurements suggest that the weld regions have higher corrosion resistance than the parent alloy. With increasing the welding speed, the distribution and extent of the corroded areas in the WNZ region are lower than those of the HAZ region. In the HAZ region,in addition to the pits in the corroded area, some cracks can be seen around the corroded areas, which confirms that intergranular corrosion is formed in this area. The alkaline localized corrosion and the pitting corrosion are the main corrosion mechanisms in the corroded areas within the weld regions.Crystallographic pits are observed within the weld regions.

文摘Micro-arc oxidation(MAO)technique is capable of producing dense oxide films on the aluminium alloy surface. This oxide film protects the aluminium alloy from the corrosion attack for longer duration.Empirical relationships were derived to evaluate the MAO coating properties(porosity and hardness)by incorporating very important MAO parameters(current density,inter-electrode distance and oxidation time).MAO parameters were also optimized to achieve coatings with minimum porosity and maximum hardness.Further, the effect of MAO parameters on coating characteristics was analysed. From the results,it is found that the current density has greater influence on the responses than the other two parameters.

文摘In this study, the effect of welding parameters on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the dissimilar resistance spot welded DP1000–QP1180 joints was investigated.Heat affected zone(HAZ)width of QP1180 side was smaller than that of DP1000 side.HAZ width and indentation depth increased with increasing welding current and welding time. The nugget size increased with increasing welding current whereas it increased at lower currents and decreased at higher currents with increasing welding time. The lowest hardness was on the DP1000 side.On the QP1180 side, the center of HAZ had the peak hardness. With increasing welding current, hardness values throughout the weld zone decreased and the tensile shear load increased. At lower welding currents, the welding time did not affect the tensile shear load.Tensile elongation decreased with the increase of welding time, whereas there is no relationship between the welding current and elongation. The spot-welded joints having higher strength exhibited a more ductile fracture characteristic.
文摘Aluminium alloys generally present low weldability by traditional fusion welding process. Development of the friction stir welding (FSW) has provided an alternative improved way of producing aluminium joints in a faster and reliable manner. The quality of a weld joint is stalwartly influenced by process parameter used during welding. An approach to develop a mathematical model was studied for predicting and optimizing the process parameters of dissimilar aluminum alloy (AA6351 T6-AA5083 Hlll)joints by incorporating the FSW process parameters such as tool pin profile, tool rotational speed welding speed and axial force. The effects of the FSW process parameters on the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of friction welded dissimilar joints were discussed. Optimization was carried out to maximize the UTS using response surface methodology (RSM) and the identified optimum FSW welding parameters were reported.
文摘The application of friction stir welding(FSW) is growing owing to the omission of difficulties in traditional welding processes. Mean absolute percentage error(MAPE) for train and test data sets did not exceed 5.4% and 7.48%, respectively. Considering the accurate results and acceptable errors in the models' responses, the ANN method can be used to economize material and time.
