Effects of Spark Ignition Engine Operating Parameters on Its Cyclic Variation ——Modeling and Simulation

An engine cyclic variation model has been built by using the residual gas temperature for the n th cycle as the input of the model, through constant pressure intake process, adiabatic compression process, constant volume combustion process, adiabatic expansion process, adiabatic blow down process and constant pressure exhaust process to approximate the thermodynamic processes in the cylinder, finally the residual gas temperature for the ( n+1) th cycle can be estimated. Because of the adding of engine operating parameters such as engine speed, spark advance, equivalence ratio, intake air pressure, intake air temperature to the model, effects of these parameters on cyclic variation can be estimated quantitatively. Since residual gas temperature fluctuation between cycles reflects the circumstances of engine cyclic variation, parameters to which residual gas temperature is sensitive are most likely used as the means to control cyclic variation. Model simulation shows that for the nearly stiochiometric mixture, cyclic variation is not obvious or even quite stable, but for the lean mixture, under the circumstances of partial load and larger spark advances, engine cyclic variations occur chaotically or with bifurcation. 展开更多

The combination of spark discharge and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is called spark discharge assisted LIBS.It works under laser-plasma triggered spark discharge mode,and shows its ability to enhance spectral emission intensity.This work uses a femtosecond laser as the light souuce,since femtosecond laser has many advantages in laser-induced plasma compared with nanosecond laser,meanwhile,the study on femtosecond LIBS with spark discharge is rare.Time-resolved spectroscopy of spark discharge assisted femtosecond LIBS was investigated under different discharge voltages and laser energies.The results showed that the spectral intensity was significantly enhanced by using spark discharge compared with LIBS alone.And,the spectral emission intensity using spark discharge assisted LIBS increased with the increase in the laser energy.In addition,at low laser energy,there was an obvious delay on the discharge time compared with high laser energy,and the discharge time with positive voltage was different from that with negative voltage. 展开更多

An experimental investigation was conducted on combustion characteristics of a single cylinder spark ignition engine fueled with coal-mine methane (CMM).The CMM was simulated by the compressed nature gas (CNG)/nitrogen blend fuels.The cylinder pressure was measured.The maximum heat release ratio,the flame development duration and the main combustion duration were analyzed with the nitrogen volume fraction in the blends changing from 0% to 35%.The results indicate that the maximum cylinder pressure,the maximum rate of pressure,the flame development duration and the main combustion duration increase and the maximum rate of heat release decreases with increasing nitrogen fraction.When the level of nitrogen volume fraction in coalmine methane is lower than 20%,the combustion process of engine is stable.But with the level of nitrogen volume fraction over 30%,the cycle to cycle combustion variation is large,especially under low load condition. 展开更多

A combination of spark discharge and nanoparticle-enhanced laser-induced plasma spectroscopy is investigated.Depositing Au nanoparticles at the surface of a brass target can enhance the coupling of the target and the laser.More atoms in the brass sample are excited.As a secondary excitation source,spark discharge reheats the generated plasma,which further amplifies the enhancement results of nanoparticles.The spectral intensity with the spark discharge increases more obviously with nanoparticle concentration increasing than without the spark discharge.Also,plasma temperature and electron density are calculated by the Boltzmann plot and Stark broadening.The changes in the plasma temperature and electron density are consistent with the spectral emission changes. 展开更多

A numerical program is built to simulate the performance of a spark ignited two-stroke free-piston engine coupled with a linear generator. The computational model combines a series of dynamic and thermodynamic equations that are solved simultaneously to predict the performances of the engines. The dynamic analysis performed consists of an evaluation of the frictional force and load force introduced by the generator. The thermodynamic analysis used a single zone model to describe the engine' s working cycle which includes intake, scavenging, compression, combustion and expansion, and to evaluate the effect of heat transfer based on the first law of thermodynamics and the ideal gas state equation. Because there is no crankshaft, a time based Wiebe equation was used to express the fraction of fuel burned in the combustion. The calculated results were validated by using the experimental data from another research group. The results indicate that the free-piston generator has some advantages over conventional engines. 展开更多

Ignition energy is one of tbe important parameters of flammable materials, and evaluating ignition energy precisely is essential to the safety of process industry and combustion science and technology. By using electric spark discharge test system, a series of electric spark discharge experiments were conducted with the capacitor-stored energy in the range of 10 J, 100 J, and 1000 J, respectively. The evaluation method for energy consumed by electric spark, wire, and switch during capacitor discharge process has been studied respectively. The resistance of wire, switch, and plasma between electrodes has been evaluated by different methods and an optimized evaluation method has been obtained. The electric energy consumed by wire, electric switch, and electric spark-induced plasma between electrodes were obtained and the energy structure of capacitor-released energy was analyzed. The dynamic process and the characteristic parameters (the maximum power, duration of discharge process) of electric spark discharge process have been analyzed. Experimental results showed that, electric spark-consumed energy only accounts for 8%-14% of the capacitor-released energy. With the increase of capacitor-released energy, the duration of discharge process becomes longer, and the energy of plasma accounts for more in the capacitor-released energy. The power of electric spark varies with time as a damped sinusoids function and the period and the maximum value increase with the capacitor-released energy. 展开更多

Purpose:This article aims to determine the percentage of"Sparking"articles among the work of this year’s Nobel Prize winners in medicine,physics,and chemistry.Design/methodology/approach:We focus on under-cited influential research among the key publications as mentioned by the Nobel Prize Committee for the 2020 Noble Prize laureates.Specifically,we extracted data from the Web of Science,and calculated the Sparking Indices using the formulas as proposed by Hu and Rousseau in 2016 and 2017.In addition,we identified another type of igniting articles based on the notion in 2017.Findings:In the fields of medicine and physics,the proportions of articles with sparking characteristics share 78.571%and 68.75%respectively,yet,in chemistry 90%articles characterized by"igniting".Moreover,the two types of articles share more than 93%in the work of the Nobel Prize included in this study.Research limitations:Our research did not cover the impact of topic,socio-political,and author’s reputation on the Sparking Indices.Practical implications:Our study shows that the Sparking Indices truly reflect influence of the best research work,so it can be used to detect under-cited influential articles,as well as identifying fundamental work.Originality/value:Our findings suggest that the Sparking Indices have good applicability for research evaluation. 展开更多

The degree of engine cyclic variation is divided into 4 levels: stable, slight variation, moderate variation and serious variation based on the statistic standard deviation of residual gas temperatures within the specified simulation cycles and the function of cyclic variation is also inducted for the cyclic variation control. Because the degree of engine cyclic variation can be estimated qualitatively, the effective control means can be applied to appease the undesired cyclic variation. Simulation result shows that for a very serious cyclic variation through the proper adjustment of the spark angle and the cyclic variation will disappear. 展开更多

混动发动机三火花塞点火系统及高热效率研究

基于一台3缸1.5 L混动发动机,研究了单火花塞、被动预燃室及三火花塞3种不同点火方式对发动机稀燃工况下燃烧和排放特性的影响.通过2000 r/min转速、0.8 MPa平均有效压力下的测试表明:在高滚流下,采用被动预燃室点火能实现的稀燃极限对... 基于一台3缸1.5 L混动发动机,研究了单火花塞、被动预燃室及三火花塞3种不同点火方式对发动机稀燃工况下燃烧和排放特性的影响.通过2000 r/min转速、0.8 MPa平均有效压力下的测试表明:在高滚流下,采用被动预燃室点火能实现的稀燃极限对应过量空气系数φ_(a)约为1.70,相比单火花塞略低,采用三火花塞点火则可在φ_(a)>1.95的条件下稳定燃烧,进而改善燃油消耗率和NO_(x)原始排放.随着空气稀释增加,采用被动预燃室点火对燃烧相位的改善效果逐渐减弱,且使得滞燃期和燃烧持续期增加明显.相比之下,三火花塞点火可有效加快燃烧速率,尤其在φ_(a)>1.70时优势显著,其燃烧持续期相比单火花塞和被动预燃室可缩短近4℃A.通过采用φ_(a)为1.80的稀混合气配合三火花塞点火,发动机在选用研究法辛烷值(RON)为92的燃油时可实现45.06%的最高有效热效率(BTE),选用RON100燃油及进一步采用电子增压器时,最高BTE可分别提升至45.63%和47.04%. 展开更多

In this paper,the characteristics of detonation combustion ignited by AC-driven non-thermal plasma and spark plug in air/acetylene mixture have been compared in a doubletube experiment system.The two tubes had the same structure,and their closed ends were installed with a plasma generator and a spark plug,respectively.The propagation characteristics of the flame were measured by pressure sensors and ion probes.The experiment results show that,compared with a spark plug,the non-thermal plasma obviously broadened the range of equivalence ratio when the detonation wave could develop successfully,it also heightened the pressure value of detonation wave.Meanwhile,the detonation wave development time and the entire flame propagation time were reduced by half.All of these advantages benefited from the larger ignition volume when a non-thermal plasma was applied. 展开更多

在甲醇发动机中,通过提高压缩比和火花点火,并采用聚甲氧基二甲醚(PODE)作为活性改进燃料,可实现混合气压燃,突破火焰传播速度对热效率的限制。研究了双燃料火花辅助压燃(SACI)模式与单燃料甲醇点燃在不同负荷和转速下的燃烧特征、热效... 在甲醇发动机中,通过提高压缩比和火花点火,并采用聚甲氧基二甲醚(PODE)作为活性改进燃料,可实现混合气压燃,突破火焰传播速度对热效率的限制。研究了双燃料火花辅助压燃(SACI)模式与单燃料甲醇点燃在不同负荷和转速下的燃烧特征、热效率和排放特性。结果表明,双燃料SACI对热效率的作用效果与负荷区间相关,BMEP为0.8 MPa时,热效率可达到41.9%,相比甲醇点燃提高1.9%,BMEP小于0.4 MPa时,循环变动较高,热效率低于甲醇点燃;双燃料SACI有利于降低NO_(x)排放,在BMEP为0.8 MPa时,NO_(x)排放比甲醇点燃减少79%;转速提高可加速PODE扩散,有助于初期可燃混合气形成,燃烧中压燃比例降低,火焰传播引燃比例提高;低负荷时HC排放随转速增加而降低;高转速会导致压燃比例降低,NO_(x)排放增加;低速大负荷对效率和排放较有利。 展开更多

煤矿井下金属结构等效储能模型耦合电磁波能量安全性分析

煤矿井下无线通信设备发射的电磁波能量可以被周围金属结构耦合吸收,这种现象存在点燃矿井内爆炸性气体的危险。现有针对井下金属结构耦合电磁波安全性研究只是对金属结构等效阻性模型耦合电磁波能量进行分析,缺乏对金属结构耦合电磁波... 煤矿井下无线通信设备发射的电磁波能量可以被周围金属结构耦合吸收,这种现象存在点燃矿井内爆炸性气体的危险。现有针对井下金属结构耦合电磁波安全性研究只是对金属结构等效阻性模型耦合电磁波能量进行分析,缺乏对金属结构耦合电磁波能量在时间上积累的储能过程研究。针对上述问题,提出一种适用于金属结构耦合−积累−释放电磁波能量研究的等效储能结构模型,即金属结构等效容性储能模型与金属结构等效感性储能模型。首先通过低衰减度传输线模型,推导出发射天线输出功率、发射天线与金属结构之间距离与接收端感应电压之间的关系。然后建立金属结构等效储能模型,推导出接收端参数与放电火花能量之间的数学关系式,分析了接收端参数对放电火花能量的影响。最后通过接收端感应电压与感应电压有效值的关系,推导出发射天线输出功率、发射天线与金属结构之间距离与放电火花能量之间的数学关系式,分析了发射天线输出功率、发射天线与金属结构之间距离对放电火花能量的影响,并给出在其他参数确定情况下2种金属结构等效储能模型各自的理论参考安全点。仿真结果表明:①对于金属结构等效容性储能模型,放电火花能量随着等效储能电容、接收端感应电压有效值增大而增大,安全点向左偏移,对等效储能电容、接收端感应电压有效值的安全要求变得严苛。②放电火花能量随着发射天线功率增大而增大,随着发射天线与金属结构之间距离增大而减小,得到金属结构等效容性储能模型理论参考安全点。③对于金属结构等效感性储能模型,放电火花能量随着等效储能电感、接收端感应电压有效值增大而增大,安全点向左偏移,对等效储能电感、接收端感应电压有效值的安全要求变得严苛。④放电火花能量随着发射天线功率增大而增大,随着发射天线与金属结构之间距离增大而减小,得到金属结构等效感性储能模型理论参考安全点。⑤对比2种金属结构储能模型理论参考安全点,得到金属结构等效容性储能模型的危险性远大于金属结构等效感性储能模型的结论。 展开更多

试验平台基于汽油缸内直喷(gasoline direct injection,GDI)发动机改造,缸内直喷聚甲氧基二甲醚(polyoxymethylene dimethyl ether,PODE),进气道喷射汽油,并将压缩比从10提升至15以利于压燃,以点火和直喷策略作为控制参数,获取双燃料火... 试验平台基于汽油缸内直喷(gasoline direct injection,GDI)发动机改造,缸内直喷聚甲氧基二甲醚(polyoxymethylene dimethyl ether,PODE),进气道喷射汽油,并将压缩比从10提升至15以利于压燃,以点火和直喷策略作为控制参数,获取双燃料火花辅助压燃(dualfuel spark-assisted compression ignition,DF-SACI)发动机的运行特征。试验结果表明:DFSACI呈现多阶段放热,直喷正时提前可提高混合气均匀性,减小不同燃烧阶段的界限,放热率明显提高;直喷比例可以更为有效地调节CA50和等容燃烧的比例,对热效率影响明显;同时放热率受点火正时提前的影响最小。试验中有效热效率最高可达37.5%。排放方面,DFSACI模式在合适的点火和喷射策略下,可在一定程度上降低HC和CO的排放,HC体积分数可降低至3000×10^(-6)以下,CO体积分数可降低至1500×10^(-6)以下,同时将NOx排放控制在较低水平。通过对燃烧策略的合理调整,PODE/汽油双燃料发动机借助火花辅助压燃可实现高效清洁燃烧。 展开更多

针对柴油燃料雾化蒸发困难导致的发动机燃烧效果差、易爆震的问题,本文采用空气辅助缸内直喷方案,对一台点燃式二冲程柴油发动机开展燃烧特性研究。建立了点燃式二冲程柴油发动机的三维仿真模型,对混合气特性和燃烧特性进行仿真研究,并... 针对柴油燃料雾化蒸发困难导致的发动机燃烧效果差、易爆震的问题,本文采用空气辅助缸内直喷方案,对一台点燃式二冲程柴油发动机开展燃烧特性研究。建立了点燃式二冲程柴油发动机的三维仿真模型,对混合气特性和燃烧特性进行仿真研究,并通过台架试验进行了验证。研究结果表明:点燃式二冲程柴油发动机在热机工况下,点火时刻有58%的燃油蒸发,缸内平均当量比由冷起动工况下的0.2提升至0.8,混合气品质较高,缸内燃烧情况良好。通过燃用汽油、柴油两种燃料进行发动机整机性能对比试验发现,在高转速大负荷工况下,两种燃料的燃烧特性曲线十分接近,柴油燃烧的指示平均有效压力(IMEP)的分布均值仅比汽油低1.2%。总体而言,柴油燃料应用于点燃式二冲程发动机的燃烧性能与汽油燃料相似,且使用柴油燃料时缸内压力最大震荡幅值仅为0.02 MPa,远小于爆震阈值,不会出现爆震现象。 展开更多

为了掌握和提高点燃式甲醇发动机校正净功率测量准确度,基于一台6缸甲醇发动机在额定点工况系统研究了校正净功率测量结果的不确定度。建立了校正净功率数学计算模型,并对模型中测量重复性、测功机精度和温度压力测量精度等各影响因素... 为了掌握和提高点燃式甲醇发动机校正净功率测量准确度,基于一台6缸甲醇发动机在额定点工况系统研究了校正净功率测量结果的不确定度。建立了校正净功率数学计算模型,并对模型中测量重复性、测功机精度和温度压力测量精度等各影响因素的相对标准不确定度进行了分析与评定,最终得到校正净功率的不确定度评定结果。试验结果显示,发动机额定点工况的校正净功率均值为312.43 kW,合成相对标准不确定度为0.28%,合成标准不确定度为0.8868 kW,扩展不确定度为1.7736 kW。对比分析各影响因素的不确定度,其中扭矩测量对不确定度影响贡献最大。本研究将为点燃式发动机性能的精确测量提供参考。 展开更多
