A review of 3D graphene materials for energy storage and conversion

Three-dimensional(3D)graphene monoliths are a new carbon material,that has tremendous potential in the fields of energy conversion and storage.They can solve the limitations of two-dimensional(2D)graphene sheets,including interlayer restacking,high contact resistance,and insufficient pore accessibility.By constructing interconnected porous networks,3D graphenes not only retain the intrinsic advantages of 2D graphene sheets,such as high specific surface area,excellent electrical and thermal conductivities,good mechanical properties,and outstanding chemical stability,but also enable efficient mass transport of external fluid species.We summarize the fabrication methods for 3D graphenes,with a particular focus on their applications in energy-related systems.Techniques including chemical reduction assembly,chemical vapor deposition,3D printing,chemical blowing,and zinc-tiered pyrolysis have been developed to change their pore structure and elemental composition,and ways in which they can be integrated with functional components.In terms of energy conversion and storage,they have found broad use in buffering mechanical impacts,suppressing noise,photothermal conversion,electromagnetic shielding and absorption.They have also been used in electrochemical energy systems such as supercapacitors,secondary batteries,and electrocatalysis.By reviewing recent progress in structural design and new applications,we also discuss the problems these materials face,including scalable fabrication and precise pore structure control,and possible new applications. 展开更多

Metal nanoparticles with high surface area and high electrochemical activity exhibit excellent catalytic performance in the photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide(CO_(2)).However,poor stability,small specific surface area,and less active sites limits its solar energy utilization.Hydrothermal method was utilized to synthesize the bimetallic material of Cu_(x)Co_(1-x)in this work.Co was loaded onto the Cu surface due to the electrons generated by the surface plasmon resonance(SPR)effect occurring on the Cu surface.Cu_(x)Co_(1-x)exhibits high photocatalytic conversion of CO_(2)efficiency under irradiation,which mainly because the Co nanoparticles on the surface of Cu can be used as cocatalysts to enhance the photocharge transfer.Cu_(0.6)Co_(0.4)exhibits the comparatively best photocatalytic conversion efficiency of CO_(2)in the first 6 h light irradiation.The yields of CO and CH_(4)reached 35.26 and 2.71μmol/(g·h),respectively.Upon illumination,electrons were produced,with the majority of them moving towards the interface.This movement contributes to the increased lifetime of photogenerated electron-hole pairs,which in turn boosts the photocatalytic efficiency.The findings of this research provide significant insights for creating photocatalysts that are both highly effective and stable in CO_(2)reduction processes. 展开更多

In response to the fact that the presence of manganese dithionate(MnS_(2)O_(6))leads to a series of adverse impacts,especially lower purity of manganese sulfate(MnSO_(4))and disruption of its recovery,advanced oxidation methods such as ozonation system are used to manage MnS_(2)O_(6)in the leaching solution,replacing conventional methods.To ascertain the conversion rate and kinetics of MnS_(2)O_(6)during the ozonation process,we explored the factors influencing its removal rate,including ozone dosage,manganese dithionate concentration,sulfuric acid concentration,and reaction temperature.Batch experiments were conducted to determine the reaction rate constant of ozone(k)and activation energy(Ea)obtained from intermittent experimental data fitting,revealing a least-squares exponential conversion relationship between k and the MnS_(2)O_(6)removal amount,wherein an increase in the aforementioned factors led to an enhanced MnS_(2)O_(6)conversion rate,exceeding 99.3%.The formation mechanism of the ozone products proposed during the experiment was summarized and proposed as follows:1)Mn^(2+)was directly oxidized to MnO_(2),and 2)SO_(4)2−was obtained by the catalytic oxidation of S_(2)O_(6)^(2−)with HO•from O3 decomposition.According to the kinetics analysis,the pre-exponential factor and total activation energy of the ozonation kinetics equation were 1.0×10^(23) s^(−1) and 177.28 kJ/mol,respectively.Overall,the present study demonstrates that O_(3) as an oxidizing agent can effectively facilitate MnS_(2)O_(6)disproportionation while preventing the release of the secondary pollutant,SO_(2)gas. 展开更多

In this study,Ni_(2)P/CdS composites were constructed by depositing non-precious metal co-catalyst Ni_(2)P on a one-dimensional network of CdS using a simple in-situ photodeposition method.The prepared photocatalysts promoted the decomposition of ethanol into high-value-added products while generating hydrogen.The composite photoanodes loaded with the Ni_(2)P co-catalysts showed significantly higher ethanol conversion and hydrogen production in the visible light region,which was almost three times higher than that of pure CdS.The main products of photocatalytic ethanol production are acetaldehyde(AA)and 2,3-butanediol(2,3-BDA).Compared with CdS,the selectivity of the composite photocatalysts for converting ethanol to acetaldehyde was significantly improved(62% to 78%).Characterization of the prepared photocatalysts confirmed that the loading of Ni_(2)P co-catalysts on CdS not only broadened the optical region of the catalysts for trapping light but also effectively promoted the separation and transfer of charge carriers,which significantly improved the photocatalytic efficiency of ethanol conversion and hydrogen production in the catalysts.It has been proven through Electron Paramagnetic Resonance testing that loading a Ni_(2)P co-catalyst on CdS is beneficial for the adsorption of hydroxyethyl radicals(*CH(OH)CH_(3)),thereby further improving the selectivity of acetaldehyde.This study plays an important role in the rational design of composite catalyst structures and the introduction of co-catalysts to improve catalyst performance,promote green chemistry,advocate a low-carbon society,and promote sustainable development. 展开更多

Light conversion agents Eul-xLx(TTA)3Phen (L denotes (La3+, Gd3+, Y3+)) complexes were prepared, and the influence of doping ions on fluorescence properties was investigated by elementary analysis, FTIR and fluorescent spectra. The results show that FTIR spectra of Eul-xLx(TTA)3Phen complex system are identical with that of EuTTA3Phen, which indicates that the complexes (Eul-xLx(TTA)3Phen) are similar in structure to (Eu (TTA)3Phen.) For the above doping elements, co-fluorescence enhancement has the following order: Gd3+>Y3+>La3+, and the optimum mole fractions of doping elements are 0.4, 0.2 and 0.5 respectively for Gd3+, Y3+, La3+. Among all the complexes, Eu0.6Gd0.4(TTA)3Phen complex has the strongest fluorescent intensity. Applying Eu0.6Gd0.4(TTA)3Phen complex to plastic and printing inks, bright red fluorescence plastic and printing inks are obtained when the content of europium reaches 0.1%(mass fraction). 展开更多

The compositions ... The cerium conversion film was applied to improving the corrosion resistance of Mg-Gd-Y-Zr magnesium alloy. The film was electrodeposited on the surface of the Mg-RE alloy in cerium nitrate solution. The compositions and morphologies were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning election microscopy (SEM). The corrosion behaviors of the film were investigated electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization tests and immersion tests. The results show that the optimum parameters for electrochemical deposition are as follows: pH 10.0, time 30 min, 50 mmol/L Na2CO3 and temperature 25 ℃ by the designed experiments according to the orthogonal table L(9, 34). The corrosion protection efficiency is dependent on the deposition parameters. The cerium conversion film shows better corrosion protection behavior than chromate conversion film on Mg-Gd-Y-Zr magnesium alloy. 展开更多

A new method creating depth information for 2D/3D conversion was proposed. The distance between objects is determined by the distances between objects and light source position which is estimated by the analysis of the image. The estimated lighting value is used to normalize the image. A threshold value is determined by some weighted operation between the original image and the normalized image. By applying the threshold value to the original image, background area is removed. Depth information of interested area is calculated from the lighting changes. The final 3D images converted with the proposed method are used to verify its effectiveness. 展开更多

Direct fuel synthesis becomes possible at reaction conditions close to ambient ones. The products from such direct fuel synthesis include alkanes, alkenes, oxygenates and Syngas (CO + H2). The product distribution is similar to that from Fischer-Tropsch(F-T) synthesis but it does not follow the Flory-Schulz kinetics. The idea of Ku-band transceiver frequency conversion module design based on 3D micropackaging technology is proposed. By using the double frequency conversion technology,the dual transceiver circuit from Ku-band to L-band is realized by combining with the local oscillator and the power control circuit to complete functions such as amplification, filtering and gain. In order to achieve the performance optimization and a high level of integration of the Ku-band monolithic microwave integrated circuits(MMIC) operating chip, the 3 D vertical interconnection micro-assembly technology is used. By stacking solder balls on the printed circuit board(PCB), the technology decreases the volume of the original transceiver to a miniaturized module. The module has a good electromagnetic compatibility through special structure designs. This module has the characteristics of miniaturization, low power consumption and high density, which is suitable for popularization in practical application. 展开更多

Conversion and reaction kinetics over a commercial Fe-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst... Producing methanol from coke oven gas(COG) is one of the important applications of COG. Removal of sulfur from COG is a key step of this process. Conversion and reaction kinetics over a commercial Fe-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst(T-202) were studied in a continuous flow fixed bed reactor under pressures of 1.6-2.8 MPa, space time of 1.32-3.55 s and temperatures of 240-360 °C. Though the COG contains about 0.6 mol/mol H2, hydrogenation of CO and CO2 is not significant on this catalyst. The conversions of unsaturated hydrocarbons depend on their molecular structures. Diolefins and alkynes can be completely hydrogenated even at relatively low temperature and pressure. Olefins, in contrast, can only be progressively hydrogenated with increasing temperature and pressure. The hydrodesulfurization(HDS) of CS2 on this catalyst is easy. Complete conversion of CS2 was observed in the whole range of the conditions used in this work. The original COS in the COG can also be easily converted to a low level. However, its complete HDS is difficult due to the relatively high concentration of CO in the COG and due to the limitation of thermodynamics. H2 S can react with unsaturated hydrocarbons to form ethyl mercaptan and thiophene, which are then progressively hydrodesulfurized with increasing temperature and pressure. Based on the experimental observations, reaction kinetic models for the conversion of ethylene and sulfur-containing compounds were proposed; the values of the parameters in the models were obtained by regression of the experimental data. 展开更多

The systematical and scalable frameworks were provided for estimating the blocking probabilities under asynchronous traffic in optical burst switching(OBS) nodes with limited wavelength conversion capability(LWCC) . The relevant system architectures of limited range and limited number of wavelength converters(WCs) deployed by a share-per-fiber(SPF) mode were developed,and the novel theoretical analysis of node blocking probability was derived by combining the calculation of discouraged arrival rate in a birth-death process and two-dimensional Markov chain model of SPF. The simulation results on single node performance verify the accuracy and effectiveness of the analysis models. Under most scenarios,it is difficult to distinguish the plots generated by the analysis and simulation. As the conversion degree increases,the accuracy of the analysis model worsens slightly. However,the utmost error on burst loss probability is far less than one order of magnitude and hence,still allows for an accurate estimate. Some results are of actual significance to the construction of next-generation commercial OBS backbones. 展开更多

Manufacture of Catalyst Systems for Ammonia Conversion

Platinum catalyst gauzes have been in use since the moment of development of the process of catalyst oxidation of ammonia for production of nitric acid or hydrocyanic acid.Catalyst gauzes are usually made of platinum or its alloys with rhodium and palladium.These precious metals have remarkable properties that make them ideal catalysts for acceleration of the ammonia/oxygen reaction.In 2008,OJSC "SIC 'Supermetal'" and Umicore AG&Co.KG launched a production line for Pt-alloy-based catalyst systems to be used for ammonia oxidation in the production of weak nitric acid.Catalyst systems consist of a pack of catalyst gauzes and a pack of catchment gauzes,which are made using flat-bed knitting machines and wire-cloth looms.Today,up-to-date catalyst systems MKSprecise TM are being manufactured,the basic advantages of which are an individual structure of gauzes and composition of the material,which allows to define precisely the position of each gauze in the catalyst pack,a high activity of the catalyst pack,direct catching of platinum and rhodium in the catalyst system,and a reasonable combination of single-and multilayer types of gauzes.This makes it possible to vary the configuration of the catalyst and select an optimum composition of the system to ensure the maximum efficiency of the ammonia oxidation process.We also produce the catchment systems that allow to find the best decision from the economic point view for each individual case. 展开更多

Using carbon felt, polytetrafluoroethylene latex and powder catalyst to assembly a light energy conversion device, the photocatalytic activity of catalyst 2.0%WO3-TiO2 (2%WO3 compounding TiO2) with oxygen vacancies was studied through the water splitting for O2 evolution, using a high pressure mercury lamp as the light source and Fe^3+ as the electron acceptor in two different devices: an ordinary photolysis device with catalyst powder suspending through a magnetic stirrer and a self-assembly light energy conversion device. The results show that after 12 h irradiation, the photocatalytic activity of 2.0%WO3-TiO2 with oxygen vacancies in the self-assembly light energy conversion device is higher than that of the ordinary photolysis device, and the amount of oxygen evolution is about 12 and 9 mmol/L respectively in these two devices. After 12 h, the rates of 02 evolution are slow in each device and the photocatalyst almost loses the photoactivity in the ordinary photolysis device. So, compared with the ordinary photocatalytic device, the rate of oxygen evolution and the life time of the catalyst are improved in the self-assembly light energy conversion device. 展开更多

Firstly,the demonstration test(3000 ton/a)results using a novel catalyst Co/SiO2 with egg-shell structure and the strategies for this catalyst preparation based on the issues from the mass transfer of produced wax from F-T synthesis will be discussed. Recent progresses on C2-oxygenate synthesis from syngas over a Rh/SiO2 catalyst and a 10 thousands ton/a demonstration test facility in China will be built in 2010 will be reported in the second section. A naphtha and diesel distillate which cut off the heavier end of S-F-A distribution direct synthesis with low methane selectivity from syngas over a Co/AC1 catalyst and a 10000 ton/a demonstration test with a bubble column slurry reactor will be talked about in this speech. A high α-alcohols of C2-C18 direct synthesis with more than 50 wt% selectivity and low methane and methanol selectivities from syngas over a Co2C/AC2 catalyst,a 3000 ton/a demonstration test with a bubble column slurry reactor and the primary fundamental understandings will be detailedly discussed in the forth section. MXene,a new type of two-dimensional materials,have been demonstrated as one of the best photothermal materials owing to their strong light-matter interaction and high photothermal conversion efficiency in recent years.Herein,we report the intriguing light-to-heat conversion property of vanadium carbide(V_(2)C)MXene under irradiation of millisecond laser pulse.Unlike the typical photothermal materials,the V_(2)C MXene not only converts the incident laser energy to heat by the physical photothermal effect,but also triggers the exothermic oxidation of the V_(2)C MXene.The oxidation could be greatly promoted with addition of plasmonic Au nanorods(Au NRs)for light absorption enhancement.Owing to the unique light-to-heat conversion property,the Au NRs/V_(2)C MXene membrane could serve as high temperature pulse(HTP)generators that is proposed for numerous applications with high demand for immediacy.As a proof-of concept application,Au NRs/V_(2)C MXene membrane was applied for laser ignition of the high energy density materials,such as 2,4,6,8,10,12-(hexanitrohexaaza)cyclododecane(HNIW or CL-20).An improved ignition performance,in terms of lowered laser threshold,is achieved as compared to the state-of-the-art light-to-heat conversion materials. 展开更多
