Fast Object Perception in The Subcortical Pathway:a Commentary on Wang et al.’s Paper in Human Brain Mapping(2023)

The subcortical visual pathway is generally thought to be involved in dangerous information processing,such as fear processing and defensive behavior.A recent study,published in Human Brain Mapping,shows a new function of the subcortical pathway involved in the fast processing of non-emotional object perception.Rapid object processing is a critical function of visual system.Topological perception theory proposes that the initial perception of objects begins with the extraction of topological property(TP).However,the mechanism of rapid TP processing remains unclear.The researchers investigated the subcortical mechanism of TP processing with transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS).They find that a subcortical magnocellular pathway is responsible for the early processing of TP,and this subcortical processing of TP accelerates object recognition.Based on their findings,we propose a novel training approach called subcortical magnocellular pathway training(SMPT),aimed at improving the efficiency of the subcortical M pathway to restore visual and attentional functions in disorders associated with subcortical pathway dysfunction. 展开更多

This study has been conducted in three districts of Punjab Province namely, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajan Pur and Bahawalpur of Pakistan. The study showed the results of a survey of 300 farmers which was organized to assess awareness level of farmers regarding crop insurance, factors affecting the awareness level among farmers and the perception of farmers about crop insurance. Based on exploratory research work upon the responses of farmers, the average and standard deviation were calculated. Probit model was applied to explore the factors affecting the awareness level of farmers. SPSS was used for the analysis of the collected data. The results revealed that out of 300 farmers, 184 farmers were aware with crop insurance and rests of the 116 farmers were not aware. Banks and E-media were found to be the two most important sources of the awareness for the respondent farmers. In the study area, the climatic risks were reported as the most severe risks faced by the farmers. The results also revealed the existence of negative perceptions of the farmers about crop insurance i.e. farmers perceived crop insurance as a kind of tax and they believed premium was so high that it was out of range of poor farmers and only large scale farmers could afford it. Results obtained by applying Probit model revealed that "education" and "previously availed agricultural credit" were the two most important factors which affected the awareness of the farmers regarding crop insurance. 展开更多

The evaluation index of camouflage patterns is important in the field of military application.It is the goal that researchers have always pursued to make the computable evaluation indicators more in line with the human visual mechanism.In order to make the evaluation method more computationally intelligent,a Multi-Feature Camouflage Fused Index(MF-CFI)is proposed based on the comparison of grayscale,color and texture features between the target and the background.In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed index,eye movement experiments are conducted to compare the proposed index with existing indexes including Universal Image Quality Index(UIQI),Camouflage Similarity Index(CSI)and Structural Similarity(SSIM).Twenty-four different simulated targets are designed in a grassland background,28 observers participate in the experiment and record the eye movement data during the observation process.The results show that the highest Pearson correlation coefficient is observed between MF-CFI and the eye movement data,both in the designed digital camouflage patterns and largespot camouflage patterns.Since MF-CFI is more in line with the detection law of camouflage targets in human visual perception,the proposed index can be used for the comparison and parameter optimization of camouflage design algorithms. 展开更多

The cumulative prospect theory(CPT) is applied to study travelers' route choice behavior in a degradable transport network. A cumulative prospect theory-based user equilibrium(CPT-UE) model considering stochastic perception error(SPE) within travelers' route choice decision process is developed. The SPE is conditionally dependent on the actual travel time distribution, which is different from the deterministic perception error used in the traditional logit-based stochastic user equilibrium. The CPT-UE model is formulated as a variational inequality problem and solved by a heuristic solution algorithm. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the application of the proposed model and efficiency of the solution algorithm. The effects of SPE on the reference point determination, cumulative prospect value estimation, route choice decision and network performance evaluation are investigated. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE To gather information regarding the usage of fresh medicinal plants and users′perceptions via face-to-face interviews.To date,there is no published report of firsthand account of their usage in Singapore.Such important information may be permanently lost if not properly collated in time.METHODS Information on demographic data,plant-use methods and perception of usage was collated.Participants were recruited via the local newspapers,by word of mouth etc.The survey protocol was approved by the NUS Institutional Review Board.Fresh plant samples/photographs were obtained from the users and voucher specimens were kept.RESULTS Two hundredusers who have used a total of 103 species of fresh medicinal plants anytime in the last 5years participated in the survey.The five most commonly used plants were Clinacanthusnutans(34 users),Strobilanthescrispus(31 users),Pereskiableo(25 users),Aloe vera(18 users),and Zingiberofficinale(16 users).The top 3 most commonly cited medical conditions were diseases of respiratory system(50 users),neoplasm(29 users)anddiseases of circulatory system(20 users).A total of 173 users(86.5%)did not consult any healthcare professional for advice about plant usage,and only one user consulted the pharmacist.Some of the common reasons given for using fresh medicinal plants were recommendation by others(150,75.0%),efficacy(137,68.5%),and safety(117,58.5%).Most users(170,85.0%)were satisfied or highly satisfied with the outcome of plants used.CONCLUSION Two hundred users of fresh medicinal plants have been successfully interviewed and the information documented systematically in a database.The results suggest that fresh medicinal plants have a role to play in healthcare in modern society.The information collated will serve as a useful resource for identifying promising plants for future drug discovery efforts. 展开更多

Focusing on the unsupervised mechanism of neural networks, a novel generalized goodness criterion for the unsupervised neural learning of visual perception based on the martingale measure is proposed in the paper. The differential geometrical structure is used as the framework of the whole inference and spatial statistical description with adaptive attribute is embedded in the corresponding nonlinear functional space. Consequently the integration of optimization process and computational simulation with the NeoDarwinian paradigm is obtained. And the generalization of the guidance for the evolutionary learning in the neural net framework, the convergence of the goodness and process of the evolution guaranteed by the mathematical features are discussed. The process of human natural scene categorization consists of two correlated stages: visual perception and visual cognition of natural scenes.Inspired by this fact,we propose a biologically plausible approach for natural scene image classification.This approach consists of one visual perception model and two visual cognition models.The visual perception model,composed of two steps,is used to extract discriminative features from natural scene images.In the first step,we mimic the oriented and bandpass properties of human primary visual cortex by a special complex wavelets transform,which can decompose a natural scene image into a series of 2D spatial structure signals.In the second step,a hybrid statistical feature extraction method is used to generate gist features from those 2D spatial structure signals.Then we design a cognitive feedback model to realize adaptive optimization for the visual perception model.At last,we build a multiple semantics based cognition model to imitate human cognitive mode in rapid natural scene categorization.Experiments on natural scene datasets show that the proposed method achieves high efficiency and accuracy for natural scene classification. 展开更多

This is largely the result of Le Boulch’s work on psychokinetics and psychomotor education,which made new levels available for the description of body schema activity beyond that of conscious movements. Reflex movements,involuntary gestures,and emotions are all evidence of the pre-attentional activation and preparation for motor actions. Body perception is built from the interaction between the body and the world. With this in mind,we would like to draw attention to the current paradoxical gap in the literature that exists between the living and the perceived body. We then propose a means of overcoming this gap through a description of the activation of the living body and its emersion at the level of perception. Enaction,in Francisco Varela’s groundbreaking work,explains how neurodynamics bring emergences from our living body to our consciousness by awakening and activating our potential capacities. In this sense enaction is a neurodynamics,while emersion ensures the bottom-up transition of implicit information from the living body(Leib) to consciousness and to the attentive perception of the lived body(Korper). 展开更多

背景全科医学的临床思维基于全科医学专业的自身特点,有其独特性,要求全科医师具备“以患者为中心”的临床诊断和治疗技能。为了更好地反映出全科临床住院医师的临床思维能力,需要建立一套完善的、可以反映出其全方面能力的有效评价标准... 背景全科医学的临床思维基于全科医学专业的自身特点,有其独特性,要求全科医师具备“以患者为中心”的临床诊断和治疗技能。为了更好地反映出全科临床住院医师的临床思维能力,需要建立一套完善的、可以反映出其全方面能力的有效评价标准,目前尚无适用于衡量全科住院医师临床思维能力的评价体系。目的通过德尔菲法(Delphi法)构建全科住院医师以岗位胜任力为导向的临床思维能力评价体系。方法2021年12月—2022年2月,本课题组基于文献研究初步构建了全科住院医师临床思维能力指标体系框架,运用Delphi法,与12位专家进行了两轮深入沟通,就指标的重要性给出客观评估,筛选出合适的指标,并运用层次分析法确定每个指标的权重。结果通过两轮专家咨询,本课题组建立了一个综合性的评估体系,其中包括5个一级指标(临床知识学习和扩展、资料收集和利用、诊断分析和利用、治疗决策能力、沟通和合作能力)以及30个二级指标。两轮咨询问卷有效回收率达到100.0%,专家权威系数为0.85,一级和二级指标的专家协调系数分别达到了0.299和0.189(P<0.01),一级指标的权重分别为0.198、0.198、0.227、0.227、0.150。结论本研究使用Delphi法建立一个全面评价住院医师临床思维能力的评估体系。经过对结果数据分析可知该评估体系具有较高的权威性和科学性,为今后培养高质量全科住院医师,提升全科医学教学质量提供了参考。 展开更多

[研究目的]数字时代背景下,个人隐私保护已成为全球关注的焦点。用户隐私风险感知是与之密切相关的关键研究领域,深入探究其影响因素对促进隐私信息保护至关重要。[研究方法]采用元分析方法对用户隐私风险感知的影响因素进行系统研究,通过异质性检验、发表偏倚检验和效果量分析,探究其核心因素。[研究结果/结论]研究发现,信任、感知有用性、信息敏感性、隐私经历、隐私倾向和隐私关注是影响用户风险感知的主要因素。其中,隐私关注与隐私风险感知之间呈正向强相关;感知有用性与隐私风险感知呈中度负相关;信息敏感性、隐私经历和隐私倾向与隐私风险感知均呈中度正相关;信任与隐私风险感知呈负向弱相关。此外,国家经济发展水平和文化类型对这些关系起显著调节作用。由此提出“事前透明-事中保护-事后应对”的多主体全域个人隐私安全保护策略。 展开更多

中国城镇化迈入人口城镇化的“下半场”,多感官下的居民景观感知与规划设计是近年空间感知分析与规划设计的热点。然而,现有研究多集中于视觉、听觉单一感官分析或双重感官分析,存在着对嗅觉、触觉等感官缺乏关注,以及对多感官结合分析... 中国城镇化迈入人口城镇化的“下半场”,多感官下的居民景观感知与规划设计是近年空间感知分析与规划设计的热点。然而,现有研究多集中于视觉、听觉单一感官分析或双重感官分析,存在着对嗅觉、触觉等感官缺乏关注,以及对多感官结合分析关注很少的理论不足。本文以多感官感知为视角,以广州市滨江公共空间景观作为研究对象,将其分为“自然、人类/人类活动、人造/机械”3种景观要素及33个景观因素,通过构建感知增长率指数,对视觉、听觉、嗅觉和触觉4种感官下的不同类型滨江空间的居民景观感知特征进行评价。结果表明:不同景观要素下4种感官的感知相对敏感度不同,自然景观中嗅觉敏感,人类活动景观中听觉敏感,人造景观中触觉敏感。相对视觉和触觉而言,听觉和嗅觉下居民景观感知需求更容易被忽视。居民对自然声音和自然气味的景观要素感知期待仍需加强,而人类活动声和机械气味则不受欢迎。多感官下的景观要素感知特征在不同类型的公共空间下存在差异,广场和桥下/码头是重点改造空间,需特别关注避免电子设备声和交通噪声的干扰。最后形成了各滨江空间相应的感知设计指引。本文提出,集成多感官的居民景观感知分析可为城市滨江空间规划和设计提供实质性的参考。 展开更多

随着数字化与职业教育的融合程度加深,数字素养已成为职业院校教师的必备素养,职业教育教师数字素养水平关乎职业教育数字化转型的深入开展和发展进程。研究基于技术接受模型,采用问卷调查法收集数据并结合结构方程模型,探究便利条件、... 随着数字化与职业教育的融合程度加深,数字素养已成为职业院校教师的必备素养,职业教育教师数字素养水平关乎职业教育数字化转型的深入开展和发展进程。研究基于技术接受模型,采用问卷调查法收集数据并结合结构方程模型,探究便利条件、技术接受态度和技术应用行为对职业院校教师数字素养的影响及作用机制。调查发现,当前职业院校教师数字素养水平有待提高;数字化态度和数字化行为正向预测职业院校教师数字素养水平;并且数字化便利条件通过数字化态度和数字化行为的链式中介作用对教师数字素养产生影响。基于此,建议从筑牢数字素养培育基础、强化主体动力以及强化数字素养培育主体行为三方面着手促进职业院校教师数字素养提升。 展开更多

极端灾害将导致电力系统与通信系统同时发生大面积瘫痪,基于“保电救灾、通信先行”原则,优先恢复故障通信是支撑保障电力系统安全运行的关键。该文针对灾后电力通信高效恢复问题,提出了一种计及电力侧状态感知需求与运行调控能力保障... 极端灾害将导致电力系统与通信系统同时发生大面积瘫痪,基于“保电救灾、通信先行”原则,优先恢复故障通信是支撑保障电力系统安全运行的关键。该文针对灾后电力通信高效恢复问题,提出了一种计及电力侧状态感知需求与运行调控能力保障的增广路径最大流电力通信网络恢复算法。首先考虑到电力通信系统与电力物理系统的紧耦合特性,设计了计及电力侧影响的状态感知与运行调控能力量化指标,辨识关键信息节点。然后,通过图论最大流理论,搜寻关键信息节点的增广路径集。在此基础上,引入恢复贡献度,从增广路径集中选择具有大容量、低延时以及少故障链路的通信路径进行优先重建,为灾后电力系统快速恢复过程提供可达、可靠的通信支撑。最后,以IEEE39标准系统作为仿真算例,验证了所提恢复策略下的通信系统具有更高的通信服务质量(quality of service,QoS),避免了在恢复过程中由于带宽容量不足而发生业务频繁掉线风险。 展开更多
