Howerver , the assumption is not always the case because the information about whether a component is faulty or not usually influences our knowledge about other components. Some experts may draw such a conclusion that 'if component m 1 is faulty, then component m 2 may be faulty too'. How can we use this experts' knowledge to aid the diagnosis? Based on Kohlas's probabilistic assumption-based reasoning method, we use Bayes networks to solve this problem. We calculate the posterior fault probability of the components in the observation state. The result is reasonable and reflects the effectiveness of the experts' knowledge.展开更多

Differed from the classical CFAR method, a new knowledge-based bridge detection approach is proposed. The method not only uses the backscattering intensity difference between targets and background but also applies the contextual information and spatial relationship between objects. According to bridges' special characteristics and scattering properties in SAR images, the new knowledge-based method includes three processes: river segmentation, potential bridge areas detection and bridge discrimination. The application to AIRSAR data shows that the new method is not sensitive to rivers' shape. Moreover, this method can detect bridges successfully when river segmentation is not very exact and is more robust than the radius projection method.展开更多

However,it has been recently and in only a few studies that attempts have been made to identify the specific mechanism and institutional relationships, through which knowledge-based development actually takes place. This paper builds upon the "Triple Helix Model" (Etzkowitz & Klofsten,2005) where university, business and government have been introduced as the key factors behind any knowledge-based development. It refers to a case study of knowledge-based community development in Australia's Smart State Queensland-and examines the role of the "Triple Helix" in the interaction between local and regional level. It shows the central role of the community as an innovation base for the interaction among the key factors and suggests a promotion for a Quadruple Helix Model where community is as important as business, university and government in the new economy. The paper concludes that knowledge-based development will not promote unless all four factors-community,business,university,government-work together.展开更多

For overcoming the shortcomings of previous gate assignmentapproaches, this paper presents a partial parallel gate assignment approach, by which more factorsconcerning aircraft and gates can be collsidered at the same time. This paper also presents themethod of using a knowledge-based system combined with a mathematical programming method forgetting an optimized feasible assignment solution. By this way, it is more easily to get the solutionthat satisfies both the static and dynamic situations, and thus it may adapt well to meet the needsof actual use to rea-time operations. An experimental prototype has been implemented, and a casestudy is presented at the end of the paper.展开更多

In particular, the theory of fuzzy membership functions, similarity matrices, and the operation of fuzzy inference play important roles.A realistic set of 25 washers and nuts are employed to conduct extensive experiments and simulations. The investigation includes a complete demonstration of engineering design. The results obtained from this feasibility study are very encouraging indeed because they represent the lower bound with respect to performance, namely correctrecognition rate, of what fuzzy methodology can do. This lower bound shows high recognition rate even with noisy input patterns, robustness in terms of noise tolerance, and simplicity in hardware implementation. Possible future works are suggested in the conclusion.展开更多

The system is designed to study China's mid-range economic development strategy. The capacity of the system is enhanced by the knowledge-based component which provides a knowledge-based simulation environment for model management. Currently the system has passed the stage of prototype and achieves its implementation capacity. The paper first presents the mathematical aspects of decision making including aspiration-directed decision making, then discusses the architecture of the system. The purpose of the paper is to provide insights into how such an integrated system could provide decision support for complex decision analysis.展开更多

To address these problems, this paper pro-poses a new detection algorithm: knowledge-based combined with improved genetic algorithm-fuzzy C-means (GA-FCM) algorithm. Firstly, the algorithm takes target region's maximum and average intensity, area, length of long axis and long-to-short axis ratio of the external ellipse as factors which influence the target appearing probabil- ity. The knowledge-based detection algorithm can produce preprocess results without the need of estimation of clutter models as CFAR does. Afterward the GA-FCM algorithm is improved to cluster pre-process results. It has advantages of incorporating global optimizing ability of GA and local optimizing ability of FCM, which will further eliminate false alarms and get better results. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is experimentally validated with real SAR images.展开更多
