The purpose of this paper is to study systematic theories and to enable visitors to perceive local cultures when touring in public theme parks, and awake the residents' sense of their local identities and local patriotism. Four public theme parks around Gwangju center are chosen as the study object. It is found that public theme parks are playing roles as catalyst in cultural revitalization and regional revitalization, and Gwangju's history and the symbols of its modern culture embody the historical and image characteristics of this area. With this study, it is hoped that the public theme parks of Korea can be improved with efficiencies and effectiveness in next few years and the construction of the park can become the core competence of the cultural industry as well as the guidelines for making new policies and development directions.
