                    '茫茫禹迹,画为九州',最近获得的两宗出土文献资料《(■)公盨》和《容成氏》,以及近年尤其是夏商周断代工程所获大量考古发掘成果,促使我们对'禹画九州'问题以及夏王朝的建立作一些新的思考。一、《(■)公盨》'禹敷土'(■)公盨是保利艺术博物馆新近收藏的一件西周中期偏晚的青铜器.

Based on the newly discovered bronze inscriptions of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the texts on the wooden slips of the Chu State of the Warring States Period, the Xinzhai period flood ditch and the flood remains in Huixian, the paper demonstrates that the flood and irrigation works around 4000 BP recorded in ancient texts is a fact instead of a legend, and the construction of irrigation system was important for the establishment of the Xia Dynasty. The flood resulted in the Yellow River changed its course. While part of the river was still in the original course and run through the Xingze and Mengzhu before emptied into the Yellow Sea,majority of the river turned to the north and emptied into the Bohai Sea.The main purpose of the irrigation works might have been to block the original course and dredge the new northern course. Some nine river courses might have been dredged to make the Yellow River safely empty into the Bohai Sea.An important part of the irrigation works was to dredge the Ying River,a tributary of the Huai River,to make it directly run southward to empty into the Huai River.A number of sites of the Late Longshan culture and the Erlitou culture have been discovered along the Ying River.
