As to whether Jack London is an individualist, a socialist or both, critics have been debating for a long period of time. According to Freudians, London's origin and his early life experiences result in the coexistence of individualism and socialism in him. But this state of coexistence is gradually destroyed by London's persecutory paranoia and delusions of megalomania, with individualism highlighted in him. This tendency is clearly reflected in his major works.
