As a kind of familiar pathological scars in clinical practice, hypertrophic scar is the pathological change of tissue hyperplasia after wound healed up.Its formation is due to the fibroblasts function disorderly,which results in excessive production and deposit of the extracellular matrix macromolecules.Among these,collagen is the main member.It has been proved recently that cytokines apparently play an important role in the formation and remodeling of collagenous connective tissues. Tumor necrosis factor α, mainly secreted by macrophages,has great effects on the anabolism and catabolism of fibroblasts.In this review, we summarized the advances in the relationship between TNFα and fibroblasts in hypertrophic scars.
