This article discusses the importance of theory and paradigm to a researcher. It starts from introducing and analyzing thedefinition of the two terms, by using the theories in the field of intercultural communication as examples. To a good researcher, heneeds not only clarifying the paradigm his research is positioned, but also integrating the theories in his paradigm.
