This paper introduces the application to design a TCSC based on one of the nonlinear optimal control approaches - PBC (passivity-based control). A passive controller for TCSC is constructed with only local measurement. Hence this method is applicable in practical power systems. Simulation results of applying the method in Sichuan-Chongqing Power Grid are presented which have shown that the proposed control strategy can enhance the transient stability and transmission capability of the system.
