摘要
田纳西·威廉斯的戏剧作品一直是性别批评的焦点,从五十年代的女性主义批评,到后来的同性恋研究,到近期的男性主义研究,威廉斯的作品始终受到批评家们的关注。借助康奈尔的男性气质理论,对威廉斯的戏剧《欲望号街车》进行文本解读,试图阐释剧中男主人公斯坦利是如何在自身经历、阶级、经济环境等因素的相互作用下,建构出一种特殊的支配性男性气质。
Tennessee Williams’s play“A Streetcar Named Desire”has attracted criticism from diverse perspectives,es-pecially gender criticism.This thesis attempts to analyze why Stanley had to destroy Blanche in the perspective of Mascu-linity Studies.When Stanley felt that his fragile masculinity was threatened by Blanche,he resorted to violence in order to maintain his manliness.
