《弗兰肯斯坦——现代普罗米修斯的故事》是英国女作家玛丽·雪莱在1818年创作的长篇科幻小说。这部作品不仅开创了科幻小说的先河,也是哥特式小说的经典之作。作品自出版以来,引起了广泛的关注和讨论,成为很多戏剧、电影等艺术形式的底本,对后世文学和艺术产生了深远的影响。对这部小说的研究,多从其背景与创作动机、主题与思想、叙事技巧与结构、影响与地位及跨学科研究等方面进行探讨,鲜有对“Frankenstein”一词的研究。该文对“Frankenstein”一词的起源、演变过程及其丰富的文化内涵进行分析,通过对该词的深入解析,旨在为理解玛丽·雪莱的作品及其时代背景提供新的视角和启示。
Frankenstein,or The Modern Prometheus,a lengthy science fiction novel written by British author Mary Shelley in 1818,not only pioneered the science fiction genre but also stands as a classic of Gothic literature.Since its publication,it has garnered widespread attention and discussion,serving as the basis for numerous theatrical productions,films,and other artistic forms.Its impact on subsequent literature and art has been profound.Scholarly examinations of this novel often delve into its background and creative motivations,themes and ideas,narrative techniques and structure,influence and status within literary circles,as well as interdisciplinary research.However,there has been limited exploration of the term"Frankenstein".This paper aims to analyze the origin,evolution,and rich cultural connotations of the term"Frankenstein",providing a new perspective and insight into understanding Mary Shelley's works within its historical context.
