摘要
否定提升是一种常见的语言表达,且一直备受关注。依据COHA和COCA语料库对比分析了英语否定结构“not believe...”和“believe...not...”两种语序的共性和差异。研究发现,“not believe...”和“believe...not...”都常用于口语,但是在学术语体中前者的使用频率更高,后者则更常用于新闻报道中;这两个并存构式的高频人称主语都是“I”;“not believe...”的使用频率远远高于“believe...not...”;两者的命题意义虽然相同,但“not believe...”的否定语气更弱、更礼貌。
Negative raising is a common language expression and has always been of great concern.Based on the COHA and COCA corpora,this paper compares and analyzes the universals and differences of the English negative structures"not believe..."and"believe...not...".It is found that"not believe..."and"believe...not..."are both commonly used in spoken English,but the former is more utilized in the academic style,and the latter occurs more widely in news reports;the high-frequency personal subject of the two coexisting constructions is"I";"not believe..."is used much more frequently than"believe...not...";although they share the same propositional meaning,the negative tone of"not believe..."is weaker and thus more polite.
