There are many repeated presentations of characters, plots and theme images in Claire Keegan’s works. Based on the theory of intertextuality, this article discovers three intertextual narrative modes in Keegan’s stories: one is self-referential intertextual writing that focuses on the loneliness of women and their living dilemma of getting along with others;the second is the diachronic intertextual writing based on religious emotional Tone in Irish rural stories;the last mode is the cross-border intertextual writing that fully mobilizes the sensory narrative of color and sound. Keegan uses multiple intertextual writings to construct a modern life world with Irish rural traditions, condenses a philosophical display of contemporary women’s lonely individuals and the dual dilemma of marriage and family, and tries to come to her own unique thinking conclusions.
