摘要
本文是曹波教授访学美国埃默里大学期间与该校研究生院教授、著名贝克特研究专家洛伊丝·欧维贝克的学术对话。两人首先论及当下贝学(萨缪尔·贝克特研究)的趋势,尤其是欧美的三种态势:从不同视角对贝克特出版作品的研究推陈出新;对贝克特戏剧艺术(导演、革新及域外变异)的整理研究持续不断;手稿、笔记、档案等原典的整理成果趋向电子化。对于新世纪工具书,两人从领域互补的角度评介了四种:《盛名之累》《格罗夫指南》《诗集》和《书信集》。谈及贝克特全球译介的新动向时,曹波评述了汉译的历程,重点论及"副文本"的学术史价值和"间接介入"对"学术型"文本翻译的意义。这场对话对中国贝学的发展具有启发意义,也向西方学界展现了汉译的成就。
This talk took place between Prof.Cao Bo and the famous S.Beckett scholar Lois Overbeck while the former furthered his studies at Emory University.After touching upon the general situation of recent Beckett studies,they elaborated the three trends in the West:more innovative researches made on Beckett’s published works from various points of view;more sorting studies of Beckett’s theater art demonstrated in his directions and innovations and others’directions and performances;more going online of studies of Beckett’s manuscripts,diaries and archives that lead readers"back to the cannon."As to research tools,Overbeck recommends four that complement each other:Damned to Fame,The Grove Companion,and The Collected Poems and The Letters.In the Chinese translation section,Cao expanded on the features of the four stages,with his focus on the value of those"paratexts"in the history of relevant scholarship and the significance of"indirect intrusion"to the translation of scholarly texts.This talk is inspiring to the Chinese Beckett circle and makes known to the West the features and achievements of the Chinese translation.
