The jade head found in the Shimao site shows a profile portrait with a very exaggerated eye.The Shimao culture was not the Yimu State(One Eye State)that was recorded in San Hai Jing(Classic of Mountains and Seas). The jade head shows similar characteristics to other figurines found in the Shandong Longshan culture and the post-Shijiahe culture. This indicates the possibility of cultural exchange among the elites in these areas. The single exaggerated eye on the jade head and double eyes on the stone relief are probably a material reflection of eye worship. It shows the diversity of belief or polytheism in Shimao culture, and it is different from the monotheism of Liangzhu Culture.
