Acquired immune deficiency syndrome and chronic hepatitis B are two infectious diseases that have attracted worldwide attention, which still have no effective cures.Because they share the same transmission route, human immunoodeficiency virus(HIV)/hepatitis B virus(HBV)co-infection is more common in clinical practice. In recent years, the popula-rity of effective antiretroviral therapy has significantly reduced the morbidity and mortality of HIV-infected population and extended their life span. However, the mortality rate of liver related diseases in patients with HIV/HBV infection is still significantly higher than that of patients with HIV infection alone.HIV can affect the natural history of HBV infection.Compared with HBV infection alone,co-infection with HIV/HBV has been widely recognized to cause increased HBV-DNA levels, accelerated progression of liver disease, and increased mortality from liver-related diseases.
