摘要
王文显剧作《北京政变》的最大意义,并不在于其戏剧写作技巧。细读文本并将其写作活动和作品置于中西文化关系的语境中,就不难看出王文显创作《北京政变》的意图,是希望向美国观众呈现他眼中“真实”的中国形象,以此回应西方中国形象话语,纠正西方大众对中国的偏见、误解。但当他以认可“停滞的帝国”这一西方建构的中国形象为出发点时,他在展示“真实”的中国形象方面所做出的努力便不可避免地陷入困境。
The most important significance of Peking Politics,a play by John Wong-Quincey,is not its playwriting technique.When analyzing its text in the specific context of China-West cultural exchange,we notice that the author aims to demonstrate his own version of the“real”image of China to the American audience,and combat the Western misunderstandings of China.However,while he chooses to accept,as the start point,the notion of China as“The Immobile Empire”constructed by the West,his effort in presenting the“real”image of China has inevitably led him into a dilemma.
